• Hey Guest,

We wanted to share a quick update with the community.

Our public expense ledger is now live, allowing anyone to see how donations are used to support the ongoing operation of the site.

Over the past year, increased regulatory pressure in multiple regions like UK OFCOM and Australia's eSafety has led to higher operational costs, including infrastructure, security, and the need to work with more specialized service providers to keep the site online and stable.

If you value the community and would like to help support its continued operation, donations are greatly appreciated. If you wish to donate via Bank Transfer or other options, please open a ticket.

Do you think drowning yourself is an overall successful method? I was thinking of going down to a secluded beach at night and swim as far away as possible until I completely run out of energy and end up sinking.

Then again, I'm not sure whether or not it would work or if I would need to get drunk or swallow some pills before. Tbh, it sounds like a stupid idea even in my head so I thought I'd run it by the community.

SI (survival instinct) is strong with methods involving drowning.

I do think this method would be unbearable to go through with unless one was in a situation where they couldn't physically bring themselves out of the water so they have no choice but to fight the survival instinct, that's how I imagine that many drowning accidents happen. But this method does sound horrible to me in general, but of course people have died in such a way so it's an option I guess but sounds like extreme suffering even trying to attempt.

As long as you can swim and you are fully conscious I doubt that you would swim as far outside as you can until you're too tired to just sink. There's a lot of SI long before that happens and drowning itself isn't a peaceful way to exit this world. You should look into other more humane methods or perhaps the SWB method (Shallow Water Blackout if you still like drowning).

One can use an inflatable raft of some sort or even just a life jacket to get sufficiently far off the coast to not be able to swim back and then punch a hole through it. How does that involve a stronger ability to overcome SI than any other method?

The main advantage of this kind of approach is that it is a pretty binary thing. Either you survive unharmed (because they catch you or you can't bring yourself to do it: maybe you aren't ready) or you die. No chance of ending with brain damage, no chance of being rescued by surprise and resucitated the very last minute. To me this is way more important than anything else, including how painful the method is.

There are loads of examples of people who have successfully CTB through the 'walking into the sea method'. A quick Google search for 'sea suicide' or 'ocean suicide' will bring up numerous examples, so it certainly isn't a 'stupid idea'. All of the articles euphemistically speak of 'walking into the sea' though. In reality, everyone can swim a little bit - even 'non-swimmers' - so in practice these deaths occur in the way you describe: people swim out until they can't swim anymore and then they drown. The only variable that varies is how far that is: for a non-swimmer it might be only 10 metres whereas for a highly-experienced swimmer it might be as much as several hundred metres out to sea.

I myself am considering this method.

People can and do manage to pull this method off. Here are some examples:
