This site has become facebook for the suicidal. Is this good or bad?

Yes, I believe that it has become kinda like Facebook, IIRC there was even a thread for members to post their selfies lol. I guess everyone looks for different things on this forum and if it serves their purpose and they are are not bothering/ endangering others, it's fine by me.

We are ostracized by society. I'm fine with a social site where we can vent without fear of judgment or "get help" comments.

So ive just been on one of my many many closed facebook health groups. Now and again, because of the nature of these horrid illnesses and depression someone may say they are feeling suicidal or have suicidal thoughts. The common response as seen today is the posting of links to samaritans, being advised to go to A and E immediately!! Being advised to go speak to g.p immediately, f***g prayers, it goes on.
There are no places at all to openly say yes this is sh** and actually be able to talk about it without others doing everything they can to shut those feelings down.
I cannot imagine the reaction if one went to ER or A and E and said i feel suicidal. Slightly off topic.
Even though reddit in general has lots of problems the chronicpain subreddit is pretty good as far as not responding to suicidal thoughts with that kind of garbage.

Jesus, I never thought I'd see people get elitist about wanting to die...

What a snide comment. If you hung around SS for longer maybe you would have thought of something more useful to write. These are all observations from frequently using the site. Don't be snarky.

It might have been too crass.

I've been lurking here for a couple of months.
The point I was trying to make is that I would hate for people to get discouraged because they are "braindead normies" or not in "serious need". This site serves as the last place of solace for most, even if they might not seem desperate enough.
I guess when you get attached to a community, it's natural to want to preserve it the best way you can.

Anyway, I was not trying to discourage discussion.

Your right, that would be terrible if people were discouraged for making genuinely honest posts. But what I was bluntly referring to in that context was some people's inability to do sufficient research (scowering SS for, say no more than 15 min) to answer the most basic questions. You can generally tell between the two pretty well.

100% agree with that too. This site is really the only place to chat about suicide and no-one should be harassed just for wanting information. But no, that is completely false I am not insinuating a scale of "desperate enough to help" and again not my point.

Comments that help no one and shit-stir are not the best way to preserve this community. However I understand that wasn't your intention.

It's a tough thing to bite. On the one hand, as @Sick Boy said, there's potential for more N vendors, or something, assuming we get noticed and people see there's an N flavoured pie to bite.
On the other hand, yeah, it gets kind of facebook-y here at times. I, personally, think a small drop of facebook-y Ness can do some good in terms of helping people find a reason to march on. It doesn't have to be a 100% grim place.

Besides, microwave head was funny. If we ever think of getting a mascot, I nominate him.:pfff:

8chan is magnitudes better than SS. People can speak their minds and say whatever the fuck they want without the threat of SJW repercussion.

where are you seeing SWJ on here?

I personally don't like the attitude"even if they're not serious about it they are sad so they should vent" it just fills the forum with unnecessary content that shadows the real content. It's a kind of harmless attitude to have now but when the forum fills up it will be problematic.

You can filter out by using tags, go to the method tags for example... People should be able to vent here all they want since this may be the only place where they are allowed to.

I agree that SS shouldn't be a grim place. So in that way being facebook-y is good. Good point.

Lmao microwave head. That and "if I hold my feces in for long enough will I die?" (͡ ͡° ͜ つ ͡͡°)

I didn't mean it literally, was referring to how easily people are sometimes triggered by their posts being challenged or critically discussed.
I personally don't like the attitude"even if they're not serious about it they are sad so they should vent" it just fills the forum with unnecessary content that shadows the real content. It's a kind of harmless attitude to have now but when the forum fills up it will be problematic.

That is very true. Perhaps the admins could limit 'venting' posts to the 'offtopic' section.

A lot of people don't have a therapist that just lets them talk about suicidal thoughts without feeling like they could get locked up so tbh I really don't care.

(I probably stopped posting here as often cause my therapist actually even talk about us using SN and she actually never told us to go inpatient if that's useful info for everyone.)

Don't hope for new N vendors through this forum. Selling isn't allowed here and nobody trusts "I've found a new source" posts. Also it only works through "certification process" like being picked and named in PPeH, and even that doesn't help getting not scammed as it was the case with D. On the contrary, I think the popularity of A will cause him trouble and I fear soon the access to our only N source will be gone.
