  • Hey Guest,

Today, OFCOM launched an official investigation into Sanctioned Suicide under the UK’s Online Safety Act. This has already made headlines across the UK.

This is a clear and unprecedented overreach by a foreign regulator against a U.S.-based platform. We reject this interference and will be defending the site’s existence and mission.

In addition to our public response, we are currently seeking legal representation to ensure the best possible defense in this matter. If you are a lawyer or know of one who may be able to assist, please contact us at [email protected].

That's exactly how I feel. Verbally it doesn't make sense but if you KNOW, you know how much sense it does make.

If you happen to be religious, please pray for me to be treated compassionately in my next life, as I will be praying beforehand for this as well, as a relatively quick and painless death, despite my lack of religion.

This forum has set rules in place to protect the safety of it's users. What users come here for and what they do with information they find, is up to them. You have to be over 18 to join here in the first place. Never have I seen someone tell someone to commit suicide, in fact people are very reluctant to even answer certain questions regarding methods.
The bottom line is, if someone is going to kill themselves, they are going to do it regardless if this site exists or not. Taking this place and others like it down will not stop people from doing it. Address the pain people are in first, address the issues, how can we be helped first, THATS why people commit suicide, not because someone on a forum supposedly told them to.

While looking for more information on Callie Lewis, I found the following:

Wow, I guess I didn't look hard enough lol. It's not gotten any attention from social media so it will fizzle out at least.

While it is very unfortunate that people take their lives, this site is pro-choice, it's not pro-suicide and has never been. A person becomes suicidal before coming onto this site and this site has saved many people's lives guaranteed. This site taken down would be a tragedy of huge proportions
Peace/hugs❤
I totally agree @Nem ...I always say this site has helped me, I was sure I was done with life until I found this forum....

It looks like they're trying to get SS blocked in the UK, we were blocked in Australia last year. There are ways to get around the block.

I'm accessing this through Tor - though I have been able to get through (not logging in, of course) via my phone's data. I'm in the UK on Giffgaff.

This site provides such valuable support to those who feel they have no voice. Being called pro suicide is wrong and insulting. The ones who would stop this discussion are the ones who would section the vulnerable then discharge them with a new drug addiction in an even worse state and with no help. All their good noise about reaching out for help all that happens is you get told what to think and feel, drugged and then ignored.
However...
"Showing people methods of taking their lives makes it more likely that vulnerable people will do it"
I do worry about this. That vulnerable, especially young people may take the open discussions here as a subconscious consent to attempt suicide, without understanding the gravity of the situation.
The problem is if you have free uncensored speech then it can influence the suggestible in a negative way. But if you remove anything that could possibly have a negative effect then you stop free speech.
Interesting though that they always give the Samaritans number, who are pro choice, will not call the police on you and will support you whatever you decide.

As others have said, I often feel that this site keeps me alive. I tried the traditional routes to help but no one listened. Ironic that the powers that be would want to destroy the last refuge of the hopeless and lost in the name of preserving life. I guess it is inevitable in the course of time. As are all things.

I can understand the concern of a website like this... however, I very often see people here encourage those looking to CTB to do it in a careful not impulsive way, explore others options. Plus if people are dead set on doing it they are more likely to hurt themselves badly so at least there's information on the realities of how hard it really is to go through with it. And honestly could even deter people from going through with it. Hearing of the failures etc is scary. Then having a safe place to discuss these thoughts can help people. I wish I had come here and been a part of the community much sooner. Honestly probably would've helped more than my therapy. Look where I am now... more likely to go through with it after a gagillion hospitalizations, drugs, psychiatrists, and therapists. Would have saved me thousands of dollars lol. And helped me not burden family and friends who do not understand.

I've seen users time and time again discourage impulsively and try to talk desperate people out of an attempt. I think you can be pro choice and still want people to live. On here you can do everything possible to sustain a life but because it's anonymous the choice is always there. You can't forcibly stop anyone.
I still see it as important not to normalise suicide or to portray it as something other than it is. I feel uncomfortable sometimes with seeing posts that may imply a certain peacefulness to such a serious action.
I feel sometimes that although we are stripped of many the delusions that allow people to live, it's all too easy for some to continue to buy into magical thinking without fully being aware of the potential consequences.
Maybe I'm talking nonsense and I certainly don't attempt to suggest everyone thinks a certain way. I guess I'm just expressing my reservations.

This is from the UK. I found it totally by accident and I could not find much about this young woman, only one local paper briefly mentioning her being missing.

you can see how far the establishment is up each other's arses by the way the only matter of concern is this forum - not the critical lack of funding, staff and beds in mental health that mean that vulnerable people are not treated appropriately.
The only thing the govt can do is to put the address on a blacklist that isp's are expected have in place - from what I can remember, the block can be got around.

Nice find, we're probably under constant scrutiny. I can only imagine how often we're referenced in reports like this. This place is just an outlet to a set of ideologies that will never change.
I think it's time to retighten security. Ash.net got taken down. Multiple contriversial websites get taken down when cloud-flare or their server host cuts them loose.

Everyone should be advised to use one of the better search engines like duck, duck go , use a vpn. Delete browser history all the time. Absolutely ban your account, and clear browser history if you're going to do something... dramatic.

No offense to the person who put together that spreadsheet of successful sn attempts, but that was a huge neon flashing sign to the anti choicers. It is super handy for them to download as evidence of how "dangerous" this site is. And it was served to them on a platter. I can guarantee it's been added to LE files.

If anyone is knowledgeable, maybe we should have an onion mirror of the site. But everyone should at all times know, every post, every time you source, every time you spoonfeed someone.... law enfement is most likely also reading. Like dark web stuff... people who care about this site should opsec like crazy. Behave on here like you're being watched, chances are.....

Pro-suicide members?! We are pro-choice, maybe there are some trolls who are pro-suicide but calling us all pro suicide is bad.

What am I supposed to tell someone who had suffered hell? Who tried all possible solutions? Come on, it will get better? I feel insulted.
I really hate suicide. Nobody should ever commit suicide. Never. But some people can't choose not to. I came here to get some support and I'm called pro-suicide.

Will the site ever close? Should I worry?
Our website does not aid nor encourage suicide, and all information provided is for educational purposes only. We only offer a place to discuss the topic of suicide; in other words, we provide a free speech platform for those that can't speak about suicide anywhere else. We have taken precautions to avoid issues that could arise, but regardless, there might be days where the forum is in the public eye. At those times, please don't panic. Suicide is a taboo topic, and thus, we must not succumb to any paranoia or fear. Help us keep the peace during these times by calming other users and not creating panic by making threads about it. Downtime may happen at times due to maintenance, upgrades, or feature changes, if there's anything that you should know, we'll make a thread about it and pin it.

Why they don't put the same effort to prevent somebody killing another one that doesn't want to die instead to stop those who want to die by hurting only themselves?!
I will now try to take the perspective of these people.
We do not physically harm other people, but we do cause emotional harm around us if we ctb. It's like we launch a emotion-filled bomb in a crowd. Whether our relationship with loved ones is good or bad, it will trigger a chain reaction that may, among other things, create new mentally ill people that will be unable to function in society. The last part i mentioned is just a hyperbolic possibility.

I do though, agree with you. It's the reason why im here in the first place, even if it seems unclear.

I'm just curious if the website were to ever get shut down would there be a notice/warning ahead of time or do they just pull the plug?

Just curious cause every time the website temporarily goes down there's a part of me that thinks "Well maybe this is it, maybe the site is down for good."
