I've had that happen, too. They actually had my file ready to go to court to get a court order.I've been given 2 options, voluntary and involuntary. If I didn't take voluntary, I would be given involuntary

That's what happened to me when I was younger. I was forcibly ordered into treatment by the court because my dad wouldn't allow me to go, so his parental rights were stripped and I was made a ward of the state. Then they could do whatever they wanted to with me, and they did. But yet even though he had no parental rights, they were still able to charge his insurance company for my treatment, which I've never understood. If he doesn't have any parental rights, then why should he have to pay for my treatment?I've had that happen, too. They actually had my file ready to go to court to get a court order.

Wow. I've never gotten advance notice. It's take voluntary NOW or we're going the involuntary route. They told me 2 days ago they were gonna call the cops on me if I didn't take voluntary
Welcome to the world of money... He had you on his policy so they went after it. If he had removed you from the policy, that probably would have prevented that from happening. That's what happened to me when I was younger. Fortunately, someone on the behavioral health team saw that I didn't need hospitalization so she was like I'm free to goWow. I've never gotten advance notice. It's take voluntary NOW or we're going the involuntary route.

Fortunately. That could have turned out entirely differently. I'm glad it didn't.Fortunately, someone on the behavioral health team saw that I didn't need hospitalization so she was like I'm free to go

I'm not about to go in by court order so of course I take the 'voluntary' route. 'Voluntary' gets a brand new definition.Been lurking but that's how mine have gone too. Always "take voluntary or come with us." The system is effed.
Yeah see when I "voluntarily" went to the psyc ward 2 years ago (which is how I got this psychiatrist actually), they said I could voluntarily go in, and I said "OK" and didn't let them finish. I knew the other would be coming and just wanted the option of that to hopefully have me seem agreeable so I could get out. I was told there would be a "few options" But I heard the "few options" with others and it was a "put yourself in, or we would put you in" --and for them, if you put yourself in after hearing the others, they kind of changed it to involuntary after the fact.
Totally scummy I know, but hey.
So you can kind of understand when I heard voluntarily put myself in today, I effing panicked. Like omg, I'm screwed. I didn't want to say yes, because, uh, no screw that. And so glad when he said I didn't need that, even if he said "yet".

I just think it's insane that these doctors have so much unchecked power!I'm not about to go in by court order so of course I take the 'voluntary' route. 'Voluntary' gets a brand new definition.
I had a job once that had "voluntary" overtime. and by "voluntary" they meant everyone had to do it, but you got to "volunteer" to put your name on a board that said it was voluntaryI'm not about to go in by court order so of course I take the 'voluntary' route. _____________
Some of these people need to look up the definition of the word voluntary, I think!![]()
That's something I haven't been willing to bet... how long an involuntary would last. It could be days or it could be months. IF the end result is the same, but 'voluntary' can get me out sooner, then I'm clearly going 'voluntary.' From a freedom point of view, it rarely makes sense to go involuntary.Seriously, who knows when you'd get out if sent in by court order. They typically don't care about length of stay when involuntary. :/ The times it's almost been involuntary for me have mostly ended in "Alright so you go now or we take you into custody and then to a facility." If I'm going no matter what, I'd rather skip the cold jail cell.
I've had a few jobs like that. It was technically voluntary but good luck getting the time off.I had a job once that had "voluntary" overtime. and by "voluntary" they meant everyone had to do it, but you got to "volunteer" to put your name on a board that said it was voluntary

Good night... just in case....I'm not going to sleep... but goodnight in case I fall asleep. One never knows....
That just isn't right.... especially since they can do ECT on an outpatient basis. Ten months? That's well beyond the time that the environment can be therapeutic. After a week, I'm already going stir-crazy and ready to go. Ten months? I couldn't even imagine. The last time I was in the hospital (summer), there was a girl who had gone in as involuntary and ended up being in there for TEN MONTHS! She had almost got to leave around month 5, but then they somehow convinced her that she needed ECT therapy and neglected to mention that she would have to stay for that. Hindsight it should have been obvious, but when people are in a delicate, impressionable state like that they sometimes don't think things through. It's a scary thought.
They can also flat out lie to you about things. They certainly did to me over and over. Maybe she didn't know she'd have to stay because they lied to her and said she wouldn't. Then once she agreed to it they said, "Oh, by the way. . . ".The last time I was in the hospital (summer), there was a girl who had gone in as involuntary and ended up being in there for TEN MONTHS! Well, in reality, what's something and what's nothing?5:03 pm. I got nothing done today despite doing a lot. It's like having a refrigerator full of food and nothing to eat.
Sometimes, it is a hustle... especially if you have insurance. The 'treatment' follows the money trail. If you have money, there's a bed with your name on it.I understand the logic, but honestly this all sounds like a hustle. If your choice is to either go in on your own or go in by force, its not really voluntary anymore.
I wonder how much of this is motivated just by charging you more money. I'm sure there are cases where it might be justifiable but again i dont understand how this system works in the US.

Are you showering almost every day? What about your hygiene isn't good?So my mom was disappointed with me after getting off the phone with the nurse about my suicidal thoughts and the meteor drawing I drew. She said that sounded like a person who needs to be hospitalized. Also, the nurse pointed out that my hygiene isn't the best either which is surprising to me because I thought I was doing a good job. Apparently not. I guess I'll try to do better.
So it wouldn't be much of a stretch for them to lie then in order to put a few extra dollars into their pockets. And I'm sure the definition of "a few extra dollars" is just as random as the definition of " voluntary".All medical people are basically trained to lie to get you the help they think you need to get better, even if it means tricking and lieing to you.
You need surgery to save your life, but you won't have it because you need to see your family in a wedding that you need to drive to get to? They'll phrase it in such a way that it 'sounds' like you can drive so you agree, do it, and then tell you after you can't.
Does that sound specific? I was in scrubs (nursing class things) when the person had that happen to them. Granted he would've died on the road to the wedding and taken out probably dozens of people as he drove a semi, but still. Medical people are trained and told to lie (at least in general, not all of course) to get what they believe is best for their patients)
Yeah I'm showering everyday, but the nurse told my mom that she could smell me. She and my mom are also looking at long term facility treatment for me and I'd rather ctb then go to a long term facility. Are you showering almost every day? What about your hygiene isn't good?
Seriously? I can smell someone all the time... humans have smell... I bet you could walk up to her and be like "you smell"Yeah I'm showering everyday, but the nurse told my mom that she could smell me.
