• Hey Guest,

We wanted to share a quick update with the community.

Our public expense ledger is now live, allowing anyone to see how donations are used to support the ongoing operation of the site.

Over the past year, increased regulatory pressure in multiple regions like UK OFCOM and Australia's eSafety has led to higher operational costs, including infrastructure, security, and the need to work with more specialized service providers to keep the site online and stable.

If you value the community and would like to help support its continued operation, donations are greatly appreciated. If you wish to donate via Bank Transfer or other options, please open a ticket.

i've been bothered by this line for years.
it's factually incorrect.
the next time someone says that shit, please just ask how they know if a person's problem(s) is temporary or NOT.
and look them dead in the eye and wait for them to honestly answer it.

they can't. it's gonna be an emotional based reply 100%, not fact based.

these fucking idiots... it's a classic example of people just repeating popular lines they hear,
but don't even think about wtf they're saying.

does it apply sometimes? maybe... yeah im sure certain situations exist where a person would benefit from maybe hearing that line.

someone out of their mind on drugs for example, having a psychosis trying to kill themselves out of pure craziness.
they would maybe benefit from that line.

but you fucking idiots, stop making it your "go to phrase" whenever you merely hear the word suicide.
stop saying it without knowing wtf is going on in a person's life.

The same energy as saying no problem that can't be solved or if others can do it why can't you.

I think one of the worst quotes is: "Suicide doesn't end the pain, it just passes it to others" I think about it constantly.

'SN is a permanent solution!'

Kidding,let's not say that.

All these people are sure lucky to have their ducks in a row. Mostly, they're lucky to just be wired right. Which we aren't. So they'll never understand.

if problems are "temporary", then why does these same people hold grief for their loved ones who died years even decades ago?

Its almost as if all "problems" arent as "temporary" as they claim.

Indeed. And not only should you ask "how do you know the problem is temporary?", you should also ask "you do you know the solution is permanent?" We can only guess at what happens to the human soul after death. It may well be reincarnated. In which case, it's not a permanent demise.

I always get the impression they're trying to be clever by saying that even an unsolvable problem is 'temporary' since it can only last as long as your finite lifespan. Still nonsensical. One I've never been able to wrap my head around is the idea 'you're going to die in the end anyway, so why not stick around?' As if all of the suffering you put yourself through in the meantime somehow doesn't count.

I get it my family might cry for a day but YOU stranger wont feel shit so why even pretend like it'll matter lol. Also those suicide hotlines???? Like... it's literally the UNITED NATIONS for us. In name, exists to be shamed.

For me, that phrase goes hand in hand with: 'Things will get better.' How can they know that? Are they going to or, are they even willing to help us to improve our situation? I imagine in many cases- they're not.

I think it's more of a conversation stopper- rather than a genuine concern for what might be troubling a person. If they can't even be bothered to listen to what's actually troubling the person, what are the chances they will help them with it?

It's not to say they should be expected to practically help them. It's more looking at the likely reality of the scenario.

Let's say there's no chance of them helping them. So- now we're left with a person already struggling, probably pessimistic about their own chances and therefore- less willing/ motivated to try to change their situation. How likely is it then- that they will in fact, 'better' their situation? Or, does the person doling out this platitude believe that good fortune magically comes to all- without them having to lift a finger?

These platitudes are frustrating because they are so low effort. They make no attempt to actually understand what that person is struggling with. It's more like all they do is tell the person they can't escape their situation but that somehow magically, all will be well. They may as well say- make a wish on this glass of water. Drink it and all your problems will disappear.

I think modern society has warped peoples' minds into thinking everything is like a quest in a video game. Careers, love, skills, health etc are all simple step by step instructions because anything more complicated would mean the average person needs to learn about nuance. In their minds, complex conditions such as depression follow the simple formula that they've heard online:
1. bad thing happens
2. person now depressed
3. person stays indoors more
4. person has now crafted a nest in their bedroom and hasn't showered in 4 weeks
5. person tries to kill themself
6. the hero of the story comes and guides them with their words
7. person get a therapist
8. person goes outside
9. person cleans house
10. person is now forever happy
There's multiple reasons why this kind of thinking has been forced upon the population as the "normal" way to perceive things, but in the case of mental health I think it's due to algorithms not having any room for complex, hard to understand topics due to it being based on engagement and having similar traits to the other content in it's database.
