I just find that the act of calling someone selfish for committing suicide is inherently selfish.
Forcing someone who is so mentally distraught to stay is horrible. Forcing someone to stay when they have made it so clear they have no wishes to continue their life and no care for their future is torture.

You wouldn't call a person with cancer selfish for stopping treatment because it was too much for them.

Expecting someone in so much pain to stay just for you is selfish. Sometimes you need to let people go.

Couldn't agree more. It's disgusting to require other people to suffer for decades so you don't have to feel bad.

I understand, it just disgusts me when so many want to force others to be tortured in this dreadful, painful existence for as long as possible, forcing humans to suffer in this existence that was so tragically imposed is such a horrific crime to me, I see so much evil in anti-suicide, there's so much evil in how those people want others to suffer and be tortured by this existence against their wishes.

I find anti-suicide so disgusting as to me existence is just a terrible mistake, only non-existence is positive to me, to be tortured in this existence for decades longer just to face the agony of old age is the most terrible, undeserved punishment to me and I wish I never had to suffer in this torturous agonising existence more than anything.

Whenever I hear somebody say "suicide is selfish", I can't help but be reminded of one particularly insufferable individual I knew online years ago.

I was a member active on a different forum. It was niche and hobby-specific, with a fairly small userbase, and I mostly enjoyed my time there, but the people in charge were total dickheads.

I have a very specific memory of being a distant observer when we had a user experience a mental breakdown and she posted a status update declaring she was suicidal and that she wanted to die. Her status update read like a draft suicide note. The main admin stepped in and had the gall to berate her and say that she's "selfish" for even thinking about wanting to kill herself, without knowing at all what turmoil and hardship she could be going through. This same admin was also completely myopic and genuinely said "tHiNk oF yOuR FaMiLy fOr fUcK's SaKe!!!1" as if to imply that all people have loving and supportive families by default?? I couldn't believe how narrow-minded and inconsiderate this guy was. I wish I had've stepped in and said something, or at least reached out to the suicidal person and offered to talk to her, but she ended up getting banned anyways. I eventually left the site entirely because that admin as well as the other staff were dogshit.

It depends on what commitments someone has made in this world. For example, a father who commits suicide destroys the lives of his children and wife. No one forced him to start a family. That's selfish imo.

I hate when people call suicide selfish. Parents calling their kids selfish for wanting to ctb when they never asked to be here is ridiculous. Friends calling someone selfish for it too is also insane cause they are basically saying you need to stay alive and suffer so that they don't feel sad for a little bit until you're a distant memory.

The only time I think suicide is selfish is if you have kids under 18 that live with you. It was selfish of you to have those kids in the first place and it'll just damage them further to have their parent ctb.

The best thing my mom could have done for me would have been to kill herself when I was young.
She was never fit to have a child, I find out years later, after so many horrific years at home and then on my own (and unable to function or cope) that she was schizophrenic (a psychiatrist told me this, made it clear); a former therapist told me I should have been rescued by Child Protective Services. My PTSD is because of her more than ANYBODY on this Earth. I will loathe her forever.

Just now I was simply coming on here as this horrible person I have been friends with for ages, this woman, was texting me (why do they never CALL BTW?) that I was "selfish" and "ridiculous" for my suicidal wishes, ideations - but as stated above it was HER selfish need, to not have some minor worry or stress compared to what I go through every day. Not sure how wanting to be free from MISERY is in any way "selfish" or "ridiculous"! I've had it with her.

Anyway I can see how one can blame someone who has children for committing suicide as they have a responsibility for their children, but many should not have had children in the first place - and I think it wrong to blame them for wanting to die or killing themselves, any more than anyone should blame any of US.

I truly envy those who were able to. Last night I watched a movie and found out one of the actresses in it had killed herself at the age of 49 with barbiturates; how I wish I could also.
