I wish they'd say someone died of depression by suicide rather than died by suicide (for example). They say depression is life threatening and yet if I die they will say by suicide. I feel if they said 'died of depression' people would understand/accept more that it is the illness that kills you. What do people think?

And a brief vent: suicidal thoughts all day fucking long, from wake up to bedtime. Agitated now in bed having fantasies about dying. This is my first fantasy where I am picturing myself after death looking down at my body. Also mentally writing suicide notes.

I would prefer "[domedune] killed himself" to anything else. I dislike passive language like "died by suicide". When I die, it will be because I killed myself, not because suicide killed me.

I understand your logic. Not all suicide is caused by depression but if it can be proven that it was caused by depression I think "died of depression by suicide" is fine.

I agree, but I'd rather hear died by suicide instead of "committed suicide". For me, I normally say ended their life or took their life. But at the end of the day, death is death. Died of depression tho is a really good way of putting it. It really depends on the preference of the person

By depression implies someone (somemany, I wish this word existed) de-pressed you.
It points blame on someone. But nobody wants to take the blame.
A lot of words are selected carefully to take care of subconscious meaning.

"Died of depression by dysphoria/being born the wrong sex" would fit me.

I like it. I think it's a lot more disarming.
