  • Hey Guest,

Today, OFCOM launched an official investigation into Sanctioned Suicide under the UK’s Online Safety Act. This has already made headlines across the UK.

Life is too difficult for me

Personally I absolutely do not believe in afterlife.

We are biological creatures with sentience that we call consciousness.

Due to various factors - some in our control, but most of them not - some of us are unable to bear the burden of consciousness.

And so, some of us successfully find a way out before we die of old age. I do not believe that constitutes bad karma in any way.

If you go, you go. You were meant to go.

Everyone who goes, was meant to go it seems to me.

Life is purely transactional in some sense.

We have a choice. We can choose to go whenever we want.

Suicide is a grey-area action. It has both negative and positive connotations, as in the most radical expression of autonomy and individuality, but also a wound inflicted to others. The context decides if this ethically grey action is 'completely redeemed' (as in euthanasia) or if it remains grey. It rarely constitutes an unequivocally unethical act, for example, in extended suicide, where someone kills their offspring before killing themselves, we have an example of unethical suicide, but in most cases at the very least we can say that the person has consumed their inalienable right of disposing of their own lives as they see fit, especially when dealing with suffering.

Oh, if you believe in karma my opinion is that it is almost always going to result in bad karma, unless you do it after a life in which you have detached from all your vices and strongest resentments and earthly ambitions. I imagine in this case it would be simply a peaceful departure instead of a ragequit in which you haven´t solved anything.

Life is hell not because we exist, but because we can't get out when we want. If killing those who want to live is a crime, forcing someone who wants out to live is also bullying. We have created many philosophies and religions to deal with the fact that life really means nothing. So we can get out of bed every morning and do our daily tasks. The fact that someone gives up easily and wants to quit reminds others of the truth about life. They don't want to face suicide as an act as a reminder of the meaninglessness of life, as they do cemeteries outside of town. I hate all these lies and the brotherhood of pain. Just let the one who doesn't want to live get out of this shithole!

Morality is man-made and contradicts itself. But why should someone be obligated to live a life they never consented to begin? That's slavery and contradicts the most basic form of ethics. I would argue that even if someone did consent to being born, why can they not change their mind? If someone says they are going to attend a party, must they stay until it's over? I have reached a point where I refuse to make any commitments, if I am not 100% certain I can/will be able to fulfill them.

I think much of present-day morality is based on social environment long time ago, when there were many fightings and wars. There was a constant loss of life, especially men. Life was precious, for war and farming. Therefore prolifers won.

But situation has greatly changed in the past 200 years. Medicine has made more people live longer. Technology replaces human in many tasks. Life becomes meaningless most of the time.

Still much infighting between people, but not deadly in terms of life, which leads to widespread mental issues and sufferings. Suicide becomes a solution.

I am saying this of the basis or idea that the universe is inherently ethical ie there is more to life than just chance
Think I would argue that morals and ethics are very much a man-made construction- linked to religion which may or may not also be a man-made construction also.

I'd say the universe and nature isn't ethical at all. It just does things to survive and evolve- no matter how cruel. There are wasps that lay their eggs on living caterpillars, drag them into burrows, seal the entrances and let their grubs devour the poor thing from the inside out. Some animals don't just kill for food but for 'fun'/ the sport of it. I think we have this romantic idea that the natural world is fair but I really don't think it is.

I'm also not convinced that there is anything more to life than just chance but again, this depends largely on belief systems.

Personally, I feel it would be ethically and morally absolutely the best thing for the planet if I ctb- all I'm going to do the rest of my life is pollute it. I'm not clever enough to come up with a sustainable alternative to fossil fuels/plastic.

For other people though, no, it probably isn't ethically/morally the best thing to do if I ctb. It would likely cause some of them suffering.

If you have a right to live logically you have also a right to die.
If you want to live, live if you don't then don't.
For me, I want to live desperately even after death. I just want to end my pain. If I could end it without suicide I will live but If I couldn't I will die.

Moral and ethic don´t belong to my vocabulary. I don´t believe that we have a free will.
