Are solitary suicides reported on the news in your area? I don't want mine's to be reported. I just want to go with only a few people knowing.

In my area, even if you moved out of the area 10 years ago, they will still report it unfortunately. You would think they would have something better to report.

Does knowing your suicide could be broadcasted bother you in any type of way?

In my area they don't report anything. My mental health team reported me missing on 31st dec CLS they couldn't get hold of me and the police done nothing. Broke in my house etc but I wasnt there so they left it - 25th feb today and they still haven't consulted media. No one is ever dead or missing or anything where I live unless of course you are a criminal!

I wouldn't want my death showing up on the local news here where I live. It's a small state (the smallest, ha) and word travels fast. Gossip, I should say. Just in case, I plan to leave emphatic instructions for my privacy and my family's privacy to be respected, and to keep my death out of any news story.

If I lived anywhere else I wouldn't care, but to be back living in the state where I grew up, ugh...it grosses me out to imagine being discussed on Facebook, or on a local news site.

The only reason I might be disturbed by this is because I would damage the reputation of my relatives.
When it comes to me personally, I wouldn't mind. Why would it bother me? I'll be dead.

Some are. I doubt all. There were a few articles written about a man and a woman killing themselves in the same city only a few days apart, but they did not know each other. But other than, I have not heard about any suicides on any local media.

Some are, I know of a few from here who made it to local papers. Depends on your circumstances, if you go missing first etc I guess.

my relatives are the reason for me doing this so I dont care less what happens once I am dead, or even any negative publicity they get when I am alive. let them suffer the way they are making me suffer ... if they are decent they will do something about it, if not then let them get what they deserve. At the moment they show no decency! However as i already said, our press don't seem to report anything.

My friend killed herself in August 2018 and the local paper published her story in December of that year - it was such a shock and so upsetting as they detailed her hanging herself in a cemetery, details of which I hadn't been told at the time or following her funeral.

Interesting I would very much want people to know it was suicide. Why do you think it grosses you out?

Where I live there has been a drastic spike in suicides (majority male) over the past 14 months, all been related to mental health issues and approximately 80% had cocaine in their systems. We have a pretty bad drug problem here, where a lot of people are getting into debt and other related issues due to substance abuse. It has been and currently is heavily reported in our local media.

*Edit - I am in the UK

It will get reported in the news over here if you do something like jump or was found hanging yourself in a public place. It probably will not get in the news if it was private such as drinking SN, or N at home.

I am also terrified of it being reported. Actually, I only plan to write a "suicide letter" to the first responders, begging them to try to keep it out of the news. I was trying to find a location where this is more likely to be a possibility. In my area, suicides get reported if there's something newsworthy about it. There is very little compassion or consistency. Recently, a highly-educated, woman with a well-connected media job threw her children off a roof (1 and 4) and then jumped. The media almost painted it as an accident. I respect this decision. ALSO, I know that if an unconnected woman did soemthing similar, she would be vilified.

I hope my ctb doesn't make it into the news. I would hate for everyone on this site to know what an embarrassing failure I am.

Are obituaries necessary?

I know you have to post someone's name in the newspaper or somewhere for creditors and such for 45 days.

Obituaries are not necessary,I think you have to pay to post one, like a classified. All vain glory.Posting the name for creditors is done in my state but it can be avoided,I believe,if you leave instructions to your next of kin/executor to exactly what you owe to who. They will have to get a hold of them and keep them posted as of the liquidation of your assets,if any.Have you made a formal/legal will?

It does reach the news in the UK if your famous, if they are young and kill themselves especially if they can prove they were helped by a social media site, hello SS, lol, the story could run for a while, if young people disappear and it's out of character and a Police search doesn't find them, there are continual updates until found. Other than that you will just appear in the online newspapers, try searching your local newspaper for suicide, it may surprise you, how many there are.

But just when you thought you were safe, with no fame, you will be forever immortalised in a YouTube video, FAME at last, :smiling: :smiling: :smiling:

SORRY, examples below,

Cheers Geo

again, people only find this sad because it's young people. What about making a video about all the people dying everyday in nursing homes? No one would watch that but it's no less tragic to me.

btw I didn't expect there were any ten year olds hanging themselves that's heavy stuff. Imagine your ten year old son hanging himself I would be gone the next day couldn't live with it.

It was a private loan too. So, I doubt it can be forgiven. I will tell my executor to check.

In many states, a death notice is necessary but an obituary is not. The death notice contains only official information and does not often include the cause of death. The obituary is published by the paper in the case of famous people but is more often written and published by the family, who control its content.

Different newspapers have different policies on publishing the cause of death. Many of these policies were changed in the 80's to protect the families of those who died from AIDS.
