When I tried using it, my heart was about to jump out of my chest. I felt like I was suffocating, and going unconscious took WAY too long. I'm still alive because I eventually called 9-11. I was looking for something quick and painless. I'm thinking hanging would be preferable as you go unconscious in under 30 secs, otherwise at this point I think a gun is the most ideal option. Has anyone else who's survived SN also thought that it was unnecessarily time consuming and painful?

would be nice if you could give details of your attempt. how much sn did you consume? how high was its purity, and was it ever tested? did you fast? if so, for how long and what meds did you take? are there any pre existing health conditions that couldve potentially affected your attempt? how long is "too long" for unconsciousness to happen?

death isn't a walk in the park, which is true for 99% of suicide methods out there. even "natural" death isn't all that pleasant. sn is widely considered to be a good method, with reports to back it up and many users going out via it. so i'm curious to learn more about your perspective.

I've never taken the full recommended 20-25 g of SN, but I one had a few grams and was surprised by how that small dosage affected me. My heart started beating a lot faster and I ended up throwing up. I can only imagine how rough the full dosage must feel.

The full dosage might have accelerate the process.
By this message, I am not advising you to take more. Just as a disclaimer.
I am sorry you took it and at the same time, I might be one day in the same situation.

It was about two years ago. I took exactly 21g, I measured it on a scale and everything. With I think about 30 ml of water. It was lab grade purity, I bought it from a science lab supplier and used my parent's business address in order to receive toxic goods. So I'm sure it wasn't cut with anything. I fasted for at least 24 hours beforehand. I took metocloprimide and famotidine to prevent throwing up and tylenol to help ease the process. No other preexisting health conditions. I would like to say it took about about an hour to go unconscious but I was pretty loopy and it was awhile ago so I'm not too sure.
*edit: to go paralyzed. I couldn't move or see. But I never went fully unconscious.

It was agony. I called 9-11 because I was scared of going paralyzed and staying stuck in a painful state for hours.

It took an hour to go unconscious after ingesting 20 grams of pure sodium nitrite and you didn't vomit it up. I think this is unheard of?

I'm sorry you had this experience. Have you experienced any longterm health effects may I ask? Did they have to give you methylene blue at the hospital and did it result in a stay at the psyche ward?

It seems to vary so much. Some people have been observed to pass quite peacefully while others have horrible experiences. It is frightening how inconsistent it is.

Had the symptoms for about 40 mins and I have no idea. By the time the paramedics came I was paralyzed and couldn't open my eyes.

I called 9-11 before I went paralyzed. Technically I could hear everything so I never went, FULLY, unconscious. I suppose it's possible the paramedics gave me something. I doubt nalaxone helps and I don't remember being administered anything. But I also couldn't see or move. I say I didn't go unconscious for about an hour because that's about how long it took for me to be in the ambulance. After that point I don't know if I didn't go unconscious due to medical intervention or not.

I would like to hear from OP too, as details are quite unusual and first i hear about such reaction. My chosen method so kinda important.

They gave you methylene blue?
I doubt paramedics carry methylyene blue. At the hospital I had researchers swarming me because this case was so rare so I doubt the paramedics had it.

I don't know because I was never given an MRI or brain scan so I might be brain damaged, who knows. Yes they did give me methylene blue. I was in the psyche ward for like a month.

I shouldn't have said unconscious in my original post because I never went unconscious until they sedated me at the hospital. But I was still aware and able to hear everything at the one hour mark in the ambulance. At that point I started receiving treatment so I don't think anything thereafter counts. If you're curious I could still hear everything at the hospital until I was given anaesthesia, because I was crying so much because of the pain. I couldn't move and I also couldn't see because I couldn't move my eyelids.

It could just be a me thing. I'm not sure how common bad reactions to SN are.

You don't sense any kind of cognitive problems in comparison to before the attempt? Why did they keep you for so long?
I went back to school for two years afterwards and was still able to get As in my economics courses so I'm guessing if their was a cognitive effect it probably wasn't major. Partially due to the seriousness of the attempt and also partially because I initially did not want to leave. I made some new friends and had a sense of community for the first time in years so i was quite happy during my stay at the psyche ward.

I'm really not. I'm actively looking for a shotgun to blow my head off as we speak. But believe what you want.

It could just be a me thing. Most SN stories aren't like this, but some are bad reactions. i guess you'll have to roll the dice.

It's important to speak about your negative experience with that method but it's also important to not overgeneralize SN based on your experience because that's what you did in your title and that comes across as fear-mongering, you're trying to draw in people with an alarmist title that suggests SN isn't actually peaceful as an absolute statement when that's not quite true. The PPH gives us some good insight into SN and the peacefulness and reliability of said method is decently rated, especially with the improved regimen that includes benzos. And there are plenty of reports and even studies that suggest SN is relatively peaceful but it's always important to consider your experience might be different based on individual factors.

Suffocation was the worst part imo
I'm probably going to ask a stupid question, but what do you mean when you say "suffocation"?
Was there a feeling that your throat was clamped with your hand and you couldn't breathe?
Or did it seem to you that you were breathing faster after a hard run?
That is, oxygen was supplied to the lungs, but for this you needed to breathe faster and deeper?
Or at some point the oxygen stopped coming into your lungs at all when you were conscious?
