  • Hey Guest,

Today, OFCOM launched an official investigation into Sanctioned Suicide under the UK’s Online Safety Act. This has already made headlines across the UK.

not very often much more so during my late teens 18-21 haven't really had any problems with hearing voices or hallucinations for maybe a decade now, never took any medication for it just went away by itself, but i've been on a psych ward 3 times since 2014 to 2019 once for 6 months, once you are labeled with a diagnosis it tends to stick with you even if all your symptoms have gone away hell i get disability and sick money for it, there was a long period maybe a few years where i was hearing voice and hallucinating for a long time but thats all gone away now.

Hello, I am a 19 year old man. Just turned 19 actually. But I ruined my life and made a grave mistake. I started using drugs at age 13. By 17 I was already doing meth. I threw my life away for no reason. I developed bipolar disorder. I have OCD, depression, and adhd, suspected autism too. I see no hope or future for me and dream of not existing often. Should I give it a few more years or start planning my suicide now already? I tried to commit suicide at 14 but chickened out. I am scared of myself, since with these mental issues I never know if I'm acting logically, but it's hard to live thinking about what could've been different for me. Any advice or options would be apprecIiated. I've been lurking here for a few days now.
We all make mistakes fella. It's called growing up and being human. We are non of us perfect. I had my days in the 80s when I did stupid stuff. You are 19 years old I was 19 and felt the same as you but nothing at all is hopeless. You made huge mistakes and you are living with the fall out but you've learned it was bad and wrong; you only learn this through experience. I'm assuming you are off drugs and on meds for your problems. If the drugs are keeping you on the path can't you now look at your life and work a way forwards? My history was very different from yours I've always hated myself and can't build relationships with people because I don't trust them hence my life has been meaningless. What has kept me going is having animals in my life: dogs, cats, creatures that rely on me and need me to feed them and care for them. Animals and their non judgemental love have focused me away from dwelling on my own problems. I think we get into a circle of depression because we just focus on ourselves. By focusing on something else it puts our lives into perspective. You are 19 so young and so vulnerable. If I can do nothing else listen to the words of a much older man that has lived through a lot. You can make it day by day week by week but you have to get out of the cycle of focusing on your self and see how you can focus on something outside your self to give your brain something else to focus on. Take it slow and take it easy deal with things in your own time.

Hearing this makes me a little more hopeful, but I don't see stuff getting better for me man

Hate to be one of those people, but 19 is too young an age to throw your life away in my opinion, especially if you have doubts. Are you medicated for bipolar, depression and ADHD? If not, then I strongly recommend doing so.
Since you're young and unsure, if I were you, I'd wait a few years and see if your mind has changes. As someone who is suffering from autism, ADHD and (undiagnosed) depression, I've first hand experience on how debilitating each of these things are, so don't see this as mindless preaching on my part.
That said, the decision to take this most final option years down the line (or sooner) is up to you at the end of the day, but, again, something I strongly believe you shouldn't rush to do right now.

I've made bad choices at age 18. My life pretty much went south and it was at that age I suffered my first major depression and suicidal ideation. I have now turned 28 a weeks ago and looking back, I don't strike myself hard anymore for making those mistakes. I've hurt people and I have been hurt. It took time but I finally made peace with myself and let go of my past mistakes. At age 21, I started suffering from a chronic incurable illness along with other mental health issues and I knew for a fact that I could not escape that one. And when things became worse a year ago, it was the last straw. When I will finally make my last decision and end my own life, it would have been several years in the making.

My point is, don't be afraid of taking time to think things through. I'm sorry for what you are going through and I wish you well whatever you decide.
