Over the past year, increased regulatory pressure in multiple regions like UK OFCOM and Australia's eSafety has led to higher operational costs, including infrastructure, security, and the need to work with more specialized service providers to keep the site online and stable.

I feel like there's a reason most suicides are impulsive. When you set a date you start thinking about all that could go wrong, about how painful it could be, about what's after death. When it's impulsive all you think about is that you want to die and you want the pain to end. How does this tie into sasu? This place is a goldmine of information about how to properly do methods. While this is a good thing and helps avoid a lot of unnecessary suffering and also increases chances of success, the more you read the more you overthink. The more you start wondering "is the time I chose good? Is this rope better? Should I use this medication instead". Not only that but proper methods require a bit of planning and steps beforehand, leaving room for hesitation either due to SI or not being ready (this is a benefit btw, if you're not ready you shouldn't do it). Think about it, there's a reason you hear more about SN and hanging that firearms, firearms just requires a gun and a bullet. Minimal research is needed besides maybe placement and calliber. Two very simple things.

Tldr; sasu makes you overthink, which causes you to either drag it out or not go through with it

I agree with you, though I feel like the reason why firearms are not as common on this platform is because they are quite heavily restricted in other countries other than the US. Some people also see firearms as too violent and messy, and would rather other methods like SN.

That being said, knowing that I can easily ctb now as SN is quite readily available has made it easier for me to live.

Not to mention, the community aspect. After doing research (with an account) for XYZ, and reading a few goodbye threads, one may think about the impact one has when leaving the community via CTB.

not to mention, if one has used a firearm and knows the power of it... there may be an element of fear. With SN, people might tell themselves "it is just a little drink and sleep", or "this drink will solve XYZ problems", tho it is still possible to second guess after drinking, or decide not to drink (which has both happened).

I also noticed that videos might also put people off. Like for hanging, it's easy to read words on a paper that says what happens. But seeing actual videos? I think that's what triggered my resistance to hanging.

that's also true... though I'd prefer to be put off by a video and potentially choose something milder and permanent (or defer CTB until nature takes me, etc) ... vs learn the hard way, with a little (or a long) time to regret the decision.

Yeah but as someone with limited options it's annoying...I hate this sigh. Picking dates sucks too, so much happens in between. I was supposed to ctb today but I made a new friend last week and despite wanting to die all week, yesterday I had a really fun conversation with him and woke up in too good of a mood to kill myself :( I still want to die but because of my aversion to hanging I know I need to be in a really bad mental space or I'll just chicken out like the last time this happened. I wish I had access to another method so badly. I want to try poisoning myself tbh, but I don't have any poison...

So sorry for venting, I guess I got carried away

It's alright to vent, dw.

And yep, a lot can happen in a few days.
Which is why impulsiveness may be better, but I'm worried I won't ever do it if I leave it up to that. And I don't like the uncertainty that comes with it, it could be tmr I had enough or 20 years later. But I'll try, because setting a date doesn't work. Or maybe it would if it wasn't for me not liking the method??? I want an instant method or a method that I can fall asleep with and just not wake up. Hanging wouldn't even be my 20th choice yet I'm desperate so I thought that would be enough...ugh

That's a great thread. I totally agree. SaSu is far better than any suicide hotline. Paradoxical but it saves lives and reduces failed attempts

Of course there are successful suicides here, but there are many more who have no knowledge of this forum and who commit suicide all around the world (around 700 000 per year) so people who criticize this forum (medias, BBC,...) They should look into this topic in depth and they would see that it is more complicated than just a site promoting SN

This site also provides people a place to be understood, and sometimes that's all someone needs. You can say you're suicidal here without getting lectured on how amazing life is. People here go "yeah same, here's a reliable and painless way I found to ctb" which I think is infinitely better for reducing suffering.

You're damn right 👍 No judgement here. I wish you the best
