No pretense, no platitudes, no phobia about death. And if someone really wants to die, it's their human right and prerogative. Nobody should be forced to stay alive just for the sake of staying alive or merely existing.

What I like about this place is that there is no sugarcoating about the issues that compel us to commit suicide. What psychiatry does not understand is that nobody really wants to die per se, we just want the pain/suffering to end.

Perhaps in a more enlightened age and future, the right to die movement will become the mainstream. Just like how the earth was once considered the center of the universe. Unfortunately, we don't exactly live in those times yet.

But in the meantime, we have Sanctioned Suicide and certain countries that are ahead of the curve like the Netherlands and Switzerland. I want to thank the admins, mods and creator of this site for the genuine advice, counsel, and relief that it offers unlike "pro-life" sites like suicidewatch on reddit or other forums pertaining to chronic health conditions/mental disorders that are completely incompetent with their blind, careless, and crass parroting of essentially stating: "lol just stay alive can't offer you any real solutions or even compassion tho sorry good luck."

Couldn't agree more; this is the only place I know of that isn't going to judge me for wanting to kill myself. Everyone is the same here- no matter your circumstances: you're here because your going to kill yourself. We're not playing 'Top Trumps, the Suicide Edition', but rather just being there for those who are reaching there end & not making it into a massive commotion.
Suicide shouldn't be a shunned topic; it happens. People want death because not every problem has a solution. I think it's disgusting that people are forced into living & made to use obscure methods to kill themselves; euthanasia should be a legitimate legal option for all.

I agree with you and I too, hope that one day the right to die will become a recognized right and that people will be able to openly talk about suicide as well as euthanasia without judgment, stigma, or civil and legal consequences.

Agree 100%. It's sick that people are forced to live with chronic pain, suffering and mental illness against their will. And if they state that they want to die they'll be locked away and medicated / force fed. Sometime I truly feel this is hell.

Agree with everyone here. Modern medicine also often renders people worse off than before, with aftereffects of the method. Not to mention the so called treatment, along with how people look at you. Even if there was just a law saying don't revive. Of course not, they basically just imprison you. People don't get. They say they do, but their solution is get locked up, and drugs know to cause suicide, and other health problems. Meanwhile the main reason for feeling suicidial apparently is feeling trapped. I know I feel it all the time.

Agree. My therapist thinks the word "death" is a taboo. He calls it "non-life enhancing actions". I don't get it.
He keeps telling me how life is precious and that I should not waste it because there are kids in the world that is dying.
What does that have to do with my life? It's not like if I'm alive, those kids won't die. I'm alive, but I stopped living a long time ago.
I don't remember much in my life because I block everything out. It's as if living is a traumatic experience for me.
I'm living for my mom, but I'm already dead.
Normal people don't get it. My therapist, friends and family don't get it.

"What psychiatry does not understand is that nobody really wants to die per se, we just want the pain/suffering to end."

At least speaking for myself sometimes it's not even an avoidance of pain. I don't really have any, I have boredom I guess? Lack of joy is a death in itself. That said, I agree we should be making this choice simpler and not more difficult.

Your life should be your choice and for those looking at practical policy assisted suicide is likely cheaper from a financial standpoint for all involved. I doubt there is real statistics on it but I expect it's not even close. Suicide is expensive and making it a choice is not only easier but fiscally responsible.

Starcrossedfate, bravo! Couldn't have said it better!

Back in my counselling days, one of the first things we had to tell a client is what we would do if they were a risk to themselves or to others.

Instantly, the most important connective potential lost! You're so right.

People really do want to die, just because you don't really want to die-you just want your pain and suffering to end-doesn't mean everyone doesn't really want to die. You know I was talking to my dad today-Highly religious Ivy League Doc. He told me when his time came, he would be more than ready no nursing home-etc. I was surprised and told him I felt the same way for myself.

I think the idea that society could ever allow people to leave willingly is giving humanity too much credit.
