The good news: I hope to convince you that "survival instinct" is actually something known as "Existence Bias" (search Thomas Metzinger). It stems from fear of being without time. We are without time every night we dip into deep, dreamless sleep.
On the contrary, a feeling of apprehensiveness toward a given method is simply being rational: "this doesn't look good enough/safe to me"
The bad news: We have to do the work to arrange for ourselves a reliable method. It is a solitary endeavor, and for some of us it will be the only thing worth putting our effort into. Unfortunately, at present: Switzerland (and Belgium) are the only regions which are socioculturally mature enough for assisted suicide and/or euthanasia.
