Reaction time partial suspension

I have watched a lot of videos of partial suspension and it seems it takes a while for people to actually create enough pressure on the rope for them to pass out, and THEN they start convulsing. But during the convulsing gey seem to be partially conscious?
Is this just muscle memory or are they actually conscious? How long does it take to pass out with partial hanging? (INCLUDING the time it takes to push down the correct amount.)

Once you lose consciousness and the involuntary movements (convulsions and spasms) begin, you no longer feel anything. In fact, some people barely go through this stage, while others experience more intense movements.

I tried it today. I lost consciousness in under 5 seconds. But my belt buckle broke and I fell.
