I'm learning of different method's & I've read through a few threads + read the guide. I'm just curious on if there is a way to mask the taste. I don't have SN & am unsure on trying to purchase it still/lack funds atm. I just want to gather as much info for when I can have access to it.

Is there a way to mask the taste?
What are the side effects in case of failure?
Is fasting 8hrs enough or should one include an extra hour or two?
Does anyone know if it causes any physical pain? (I have a low pain tolerance)
Is there similar methods?
I read that it can be made, but is that dangerous for the people around me? (Pets, partner, neighbors)
I will not ask for a source right now, but does anyone know the general cost in USD? An estimate is enough.

- As far as cost, it really depends on where you order it from. For example I just got mine and it cost me 9EUR for 1kg of food grade SN with 99% purity from the German chemical manufacturer (i will space out the letters so we don't get in trouble) B A S F. I'm pretty sure it shouldn't be too expensive and you will probably end up paying more for international (or domestic) shipping than for the SN itself.
- Consensus on fasting is at least 8 hours. I would do 10 at least.
- For masking the taste the best you could do is plug your nostrils while drinking but that will probably have a minimal effect. I have seen comments of people planning to use numbing sprays or gels on their tongues but i think it's unnecessary. The whole process of taking your life, regardless of the method, is not going to be 100% comfortable, so some degree of discomfort should be expected. If you can get your hands on N it might be a different case but it's a pipe dream nowadays so for most of us SN is the next best thing.
- It can cause a burning sensation in your throat but from all the reading I have done it's tolerable, as well as the other effects.

Here are some links to threads you should look at (in my opinion):

From what I have learned, the most discomforting thing you might get is starting to gasp and then grunt, searching for air, since you are experiencing hypoxia.
Some violent vomiting is to be expected during the process, but from what I understand it doesn't necessarely mean failure.

Some SN cases are painful, some of them are discomforting or peaceful.

Here you can find description of painful cases, here peaceful cases and here most common symptoms.
What are the side effects in case of failure?
There are no negative info about consequences from people who failed SN on this forum, except two cases who got problems with kidneys.

But there is info from this Russian article about SN poisoning consequences (first two paragraphs on page 6).

"In severe cases of intoxication due to degenerative changes in erythrocytes and a decrease in their resistance, hemolysis and secondary hemolytic anemia occur (on the 3-5th day after poisoning). In this case, hemoglobinuria, kidney damage (nephropathy with varying degrees of acute renal failure) and liver damage (toxic hepatopathy) can be observed. Severe acute vascular insufficiency (nitrite shock), coma, pulmonary edema may develop. The clinical picture of poisoning is highly variable. In some cases, changes in the respiratory organs come to the fore, in others - in the cardiovascular and central nervous systems, in others - in the blood system."

Also there are no comments about brain damage on this forum from people who failed SN.

There are several articles which say that brain damage is possible.

From this article (Page 2, Discussion, 2nd paragraph): "Nitrite is also a potent vasodilator and can
cause coronary ischemia and stroke as a result of hypotension, tachycardia, and hypoxia."

Also article about survived case with brain damage: "Delayed post-hypoxic leukoencephalopathy (DPHL) is a demyelinating syndrome that occurs days to weeks after the brain has recovered from a coma. It is caused by the period of hypoxia and is characterized by mental disorders, extrapyramidal system symptoms, and motor changes. Common causes include cardiogenic shock, severe anemia, massive blood loss, and poisoning. There are only a few reports of DPHL due to nitrite poisoning in literature.

Most patients usually recover completely. However, DPHL can easily induce long-term neurological deficits. Within a few weeks, patients with mild symptoms gradually begin to recover some functions, such as speaking and walking. After 1–−2 years, most patients return to their baseline level, but following such poisoning, cognitive impairment including short-term memory deficits and fatigue may persist and hamper the patient's independence, reducing their quality of life."
