Hello! I have never currently self harmed but really want to, however my brain is trying to stop me from self harming because its scared but I need to get it use to the physical pain of self harm. Is there good parts in the body to start? I don't think I wanna cut my wrist but maybe stabbing my shoulder is ok? How do you do this? Also how do you let yourself become ok with self harm when your body doesn't want to? Thank you!

In my experience it's not something you just decide you want to do. For me it was something that occurred naturally out of great distress so there wasn't a resistance to it. I didn't even know about self harm when I started, it was just a reaction to the emotions I was feeling.

I'd advise you not to try.

Yeah I have known about self harm for years but my brain doesn't feel as comfortable with it as it needs to be. I don't like papercuts and stuff so my brain really needs to get use to self harm, I would rather shove a knife into my head but I need to live a bit longer.

For me I started to cut on my outer forearm with a razor then want to a box cutter to then taking out the blade of the razor. Doing it on the outer arm is safer than the inner arm or wrist as its harder to hit a vein on it. Be mindful that the more deeper you cut the more chance of scaring and where you want or be okay with where scars on your body.

If you don't want to risk getting scars I would suggest only doing light cuts (maybe use a cutter that is less effective like the razor) or doing another form of self harm like using a rubber band and pulling it and releasing it or if you want to make temporally marks use red marker on your skin. If you don't care about having scars or even want them then at least clean or put something on the cuts to avoid infection.

I would only advice cutting if you are okay with scars and the physical pain it gives you relieves your emotional pain.
