  • Hey Guest,

Today, OFCOM launched an official investigation into Sanctioned Suicide under the UK’s Online Safety Act. This has already made headlines across the UK.

This is a clear and unprecedented overreach by a foreign regulator against a U.S.-based platform. We reject this interference and will be defending the site’s existence and mission.

In addition to our public response, we are currently seeking legal representation to ensure the best possible defense in this matter. If you are a lawyer or know of one who may be able to assist, please contact us at [email protected].

It's so obvious that they use such titles just to get more engagement from people. It seems as if people only care about a dead person if they achieved something in life, and your suicide is only relevant if you have a 'good' reason to do it. At this point they are making up reasons just to make it seem 'valid', such as 'because of a bad grade', 'because their partner broke up with them', because whatever. I mean, that might be the case for some suicides, especially impulsive ones, but most of the time the person is suicidal long before they do it, and it's rarely just because of a singular reason. You'll never read titles like "unemployed broke loner took their life because they hated their life". It's like exploiting suicides just for more clicks and likes. I have no problem with articles that talk about the person's life but titles like this are just pathetic.

If someone writes an article on my suicide I'm coming back and doing it again in their living room.

I don't think though that it's that you're only meant to care about people of they've achieved something, I think it's that people are only gonna read something that catches their interest. Someone successful in life kills themselves is inherently a story driving more curiosity because the question of why they'd do it is implicit to the story and so yes, as you say, more clicks.

To them normal people, your suicide is never relevant. They will use it to get sympathy, and say things like, "I really wish Bob would have sought help", or "He could have called me and talked to me."

You're not relevant when you're alive, it's when you're dead that you all of a sudden become important.
