I didn't think it would happen to me! This IC guy is so fucked btw. To trigger a worldwide police hunt? You don't walk free from this kind of thing. All he did was give us an option. Anyway...

So the police came to see if I am okay but moreover, to collect the SN. I have to be very careful about what I say here.

- it can be at any time. Don't think it is a midnight thing!
- it is not an actual raid where they look for your SN but it is more dependent on you giving it over. Luckily, I seem to have lost mine outside my apartment - I definitely, definitely got rid of it some time ago, so there was nothing to hand over. You will be asked where you lost it cuz they want to retrieve it, but if it's gone then it's gone. They will take you to where you lost it. It is important that you have gotten rid of it cuz otherwise, they might search your house.
- for now, to be on the safe side, wherever your SN is is for only you to know (provided you didn't lose it, you know?). Don't have it in a drawer or on a desk or under the bed or anything obvious. You might have to get creative, almost architectural: think about your apartment itself rather than the furniture inside it. OK?
- Maybe you feel better now, which is why you got rid of the SN. You're not depressed anymore.
- Watch police interrogation channels on YouTube like JCS. Be aware of your body language, speak confidently (don't be like: "I guess", "maybe"), don't cave in to their pressure. Know dates, times, places. Know that shit now. Be precise.
- To be fair to them, they were nice people.

I was initially a bit shaken up. When I was being asked "Do you know why we are here?", I was wondering whether to go with the "meat-curing" idea but it would be pretty obvious that I wasn't trying to do that. I can see a lot of fragile people here being intimidated and handing it over.

I dunno about you guys but SN is just about the only method I have and if I had to hand it over, I would feel trapped. Handing it over was not an option. If you are willing to stare death in the face, then you should be willing to stare the police in the face. I can see some fragile, young people being intimidated by this. My life is too shit to hand over my SN. I mean, if I still had it, you know,

They don't go through devices or anything but maybe clean your browser history, log out of Discord, hide your suicide notes, etc.

I don't think that anyone who has SN is safe from that, it's so horrible what has happened but it's sadly the reality of existing here, it disgusts me how suicidal people are treat like criminals simply for planning a way to die.

I hope you're okay after all that.

I don't think there's any chance of them searching anyone's property. They might have reason to be concerned for your mental health, but the SN itself is legal. With IC it seems like they're after him for assisting in suicides (he made it pretty clear to someone undercover that he knew what it was being used for, and told them how well it worked), so it's not really about the substance itself. I don't think there's any way they could legally justify searches (at least here in the UK).

Thanks. It was a weird experience having to get inventive, shall I say. I knew that the police showing up was not because of any crime I had committed, but that depending on what I said and didn't after that, it could be. I was careful with my body language and words.

I was really surprised to see the police show up, and I'm a university student so they were with my RA as well; I ordered it months ago so I was not expecting someone to show up in the hall outside my apartment asking if I was suicidal). I panicked and basically said I didn't know what they were talking about, didn't remember getting anything, said maybe someone stole my credit card info? I don't think I was very believable, but it was enough to make them go away.

I assume that if you are in a country where SN is legal, they wouldn't have a reason to search the house. Therefore I assume it would be best not to answer the doorbell to any unknown people (who might be police), because they probably wouldn't break open the door, if you haven't ordered anything illegal

"I threw it into a rubbish bin two months ago, I don't want to die anymore, thanks for the concern" should work too I guess. And not remembering any other details. Where I live it's perfectly legal to not remember anything. I mean if they want to track the trash form two months ago, I'm not gonna stop them.
Still, I absolutely hate it. Are they going to track people who bought rope too, and wake them up in the middle of the night? It's equally ridiculous.
If life is so great, I wonder why taking away not-too-painful lethal means is usually the main, and sometimes only kind of suicide prevention offered. Sounds as if they just enjoyed torturing suicidal people.

I'm confused. What gives them the right to confiscate it or even to search without a warrant? Nobody should br intimidated by the police

I guess if they think you are in imminant 'danger' of using it to CTB- they could- in theory section someone and confiscate it. I get the impression some of them were briefed that this was an imminant situation. That we had all bought these 'kits' and were about to use them.

I was (perhaps stupidly) honest. I more or less told them I had bought it to CTB later in life- if I came down with a debhilitating illness. They were nervous that 'later in life' could mean tomorrow but I assured them it didn't. They obviously wanted to take it but I politely said I'd prefer them not to. They seemed reasonable to be fair but it probably depends on who you get and what they've been told.

I think we both knew they didn't have the grounds to either section me- or- to confiscate it- seeing as I'm not in imminant danger and it is legal to have. Seeing as they must have known where it came from anyway and I had their assurances they wouldn't take it- I let them look at it and they handed it back. I really feel like- if we're honest with them- they ought to be the same with us. We're not criminals! There ought to be trust there. I've been kind of disgusted with some of the heavy handed approaches I've read here. I was pretty lucky really- but- I did play a fairly straight bat with them. I don't feel like we should need to lie. That's the worst part of it though- I'm starting to think I should have just lied.

I live in Western Europe and I bought SN from IC last year. I thought I was going to ctb but in the end I didn't go through with it. I am doing better now but I still keep it because at some point if I feel too bad I still want to have the option to go peacefully. I was on Holiday last week and when I came back, I discovered the police had broken into my apartment and left a message. They later also called me, about "something I ordered from a Canadian website". I explained it was to cure meat, they probably didn't believe me but they didn't push further than this.

I'm mad at this violation of my privacy.

Wow you got incredibly lucky there!!! To be fair you clearly presented yourself very well to seem like you were in control of yourself but still very much not the approach I would have taken.

Ha ha- yes. I'm not so sure it was the best approach in retrospect. Probably my strict upbringing- being taught not to lie- especially to police.

I suppose this dumb part of me wanted to have the conversation too- that plenty of reasonably functioning people want to CTB. You don't have to be utterly broken and in the depths of despair to realise that this life REALLY isn't worth it. I don't see why it should seem such a radical idea that my life belongs to me.

But yeah- I would say I'm in control of myself- so- hopefully it did come across that way. I just hope there are no repurcussions... I think a lot of other people handled it better. Oh well- done now.
