Over the past year, increased regulatory pressure in multiple regions like UK OFCOM and Australia's eSafety has led to higher operational costs, including infrastructure, security, and the need to work with more specialized service providers to keep the site online and stable.

That happened with me as well but it works perfectly fine for me now. I'm assuming it depends on your account how new it is. Just click on that person and start a conversation and ask them why they started a private conversation with you. It's really buggy.
