I was thinking back on one traumatic experience I had in childhood.

I was 10 years old and I was having trouble tying my shoes (it was a pair of sneakers that had shoelaces).

In response, my parents locked me in the garage until I was able to tie my shoes properly.

I was trying to tie my shoes for a while. Then, I got frustrated and yelled, "This is stupid."

I then banged on the garage door. Only then the garage door was opened. I don't remember what happened after that.

And, to this day, I still don't know how to tie shoes. One lace is loose, while the other is perfectly tied.

There is a part of me that wants to be more understanding and explain that my parents did this once and they were probably taking their anger out on me bc their finances were bad.

But, it doesn't change the fact that it hurts and that hurt is still lingering.
