This is a Spanish film about a man called Ramon Sampedro; a quadriplegic following an accident he endured as a young man. He endlessly campaigned for euthanasia and a right to die for 29 years.

One of the most beautiful films about euthanasia. It perfectly encapsulates the right to die movement. Please watch it if you can.

One day many many years from now people will know that death is only a speedbump and it will be fully allowed to go back home by peaceful means. Of course in such a world we would in theory have a much higher quality of life as well and the need to die might not be so kuch by then. It is here and now that death by taking your own life is being fought for by people who see the injustices of this harsh world. Times will change and hopefully for the better.

That is a good movie. It had funny parts because of hollywood but it still got the message through. Those people were suffering from chronic illness if I remember right. It will be some time before someone can leave just out of sadness and depression. Until then we will find bodies hanging in closets and teens with empty pill bottles lying dead on their parents floor because nobody wants to acknowledging how harsh this world is on the soul and heart and mind. In this huge mess we should be allowed to leave by peaceful and loving means like lethal injection or something. Wars kill children but "we" have to stay here and pay those war taxes and watch? FUCK that shit! Only a bunch of assholes would fight to stay here while doing fuck all to change this God damned place. Hey here's an idea, let's all go to work tomorrow and see if things get any better by the weekend! It didn't work last week but I have high hopes it will surely work this time....said no fucking body ever! Don't die there are things to live for! Another war is coming next year starring Matt Damon!! Gimme a fucking break!

Exactly buddy, this hell hole is a dick joke.
I don't know how watered down the movie was for the peon masses but it did make clear that a man of integrity, courage and empathy when it came to his job, and being a human caring for others, had his life destroyed for saying being forced to stay alive is inhumane and helping end others pain. It did get the story across despite likely inaccuracies etc.
Yet People still don't care.

Like the times we've been manipulated and led into now, people still allow it to continue because they get a new gizmo every year they've become self serving but happy to take at every opportunity.

There's also the Belgian movie "Tot altijd". The English title is "Time Of My Life". The movie is not well known and it's not the best one out there (although it's certainly not a bad movie), but it explains how Belgium became the second country in the world to legalize euthanasia, by telling the story of a MS patient who was an activist for this law and was the first person to make use of it once it was approved.

Yes, I saw her back in the day and she's fine. I know the case of Sanpedro since in Spain it was very controversial. I saw the video of his death because they published. It was a declaration of his will to die. A trusted person left cyanide next to the bedside table and he drank through a fairly long straw. In seconds he died. Despite this, I remember that a police investigation was carried out to find the "culprit." Imagine the police and legal resources wasted only to find who had left the cyanide on the table and who made the video of his statement. I recently read an interview of the person who cared for him but without showing his face.

I will read the law when it is published, but I suspect it is going to have too many red tape. I know the administration of my country well

I thought dying of cyanide was a painful death.
And it is, but it is 100% effective and practically insurmountable. I think we are a few horrible minutes and then goodbye

I shed a tear at the end of the film. Poor Sampedro having to endure that hell for 29 years. May his soul rest in eternal peace.
