I don't even have the motivation to clean up after my pets, or even take care of them. Take my cat, Momo, for example. I adopted her to at least motivate myself to clean. But in the end, I can't even get out of bed to feed her or give her a loving home. I feel so bad.

I'm severely depressed, really. I don't have a prescription for it; I've had ADHD and depression since I was 11 and haven't gotten any treatment or help.

It's really affecting me and ruining my life as a teenager still in school. How do people with depression, or people with mental illness in general, take care of cats, or any other pets?

Even with the problems I have, I still take my dog for walks outside because it's one of the few things that actually help me feel better. My dad feeds him though because he's technically HIS dog, but I love the little guy just the same. His name is Rascal and he's a cute little guy.

I've had depression for a long time too, and despite taking meds to help, it never goes away, but considering the fact you are a teenager, at least tell me you're 18. That is the minimum age you have to be to sign up on Sasu.

My problems and struggles are one of the primary reasons I do not have pets and will not have pets. The last time I had pets I could take care of myself and was functioning mostly normally. Now I'm struggling with even that much. Pets are the same responsibility as children, if you can't take care of them or give them everything they deserve, you shouldn't have them.

If you love your cat, Momo, you should really find a loving home for her to go to before she suffers or worse. It's very difficult, it's very unpleasant, but at least you could know in your heart that she is being taken care of and getting everything she needs and deserves. Wanting that above all else is a sign of real love. This will also lift the burden of guilt and worry off your shoulders. You should find someone who can take her, maybe if it's family or a close friend it could be a temporary thing even if long term. Get help doing this if you need to and can. Do not take her to a shelter, and please be careful who you trust.

You need less stress and less things on your plate. I wish you the best.

I didn't know you were living with someone else, this makes the situation less dire and less urgent if your mother is helping take care of Momo. You should have a serious conversation with your mother about whether or not you should keep her, and if she could help you find her a new home if that's what you choose to do. Same advice applies, be careful who you trust and make sure she's going somewhere good.

Depression is one of the most insidious illnesses: unlike gastroenteritis, which can be treated with medication and a little rest, depression profoundly affects the body and our energy; it saps our morale and impacts our daily lives as well as those of the people around us. No matter how much goodwill there is in the world, it's far from easy to recover, even with therapy, medication, and the support of loved ones… Unfortunately, in the situation you describe, these are beings who are almost entirely dependent on you. While an average person might be affected by your depression, they're relatively independent and capable of taking care of themselves. But animals aren't. I think the best solution for them and for you as well, if your suffering makes it impossible for you to care for them, is to find them a loving, animal-loving family. Whether they live near you or not, they'll know how to take care of your pets, and, if you'd like, they can invite you over so you can see how they're doing. That way, not only will a loving family be able to care for your little companions, but you'll also be able to keep seeing them 🫶. Above all, don't abandon them: that's the worst thing that could happen to them, because in the wild, they won't be able to survive on their own. Find people who can help you care for your pets, and I wish you a speedy recovery. If you need anything, I'm here for you 🫶!

Update: I just saw your message about your mom. I'm really relieved that someone cares about you and your pets. You can be proud of yourself for making the right decision 😊!
His name is Rascal and he's a cute little guy.
So cute 🥰 🥰 🥰! It reminds me of the anime *Rascal Does Not Dream of Bunny Girl Senpai*, one of my favorite anime (please tell me I'm not the only one who knows it 😭😭🤣). If I ever get a dog and/or a cat, I'll name my dog Dribble and my cat Spitz, as a tribute to the famous taxi drivers from *Warioware* 😎 (again, please tell me you get the reference 😭😭🤣)!

Why do you think your mother is allowing any of this to continue? Why isn't she or anyone else insisting that you get help?

You shouldn't have created an account until after October got here. Underage users get reported on here as they should. I really don't want to do that to you but this site is being so heavily scrutinized already, I feel like I have to for the good of this community. I hope you understand.
