So I just wanted to check I heard somewhere I can use a medical non rebreather mask instead of an exit bag for a nitrogen ctb. Has anyone used this method before or am I risking a possible failed attempt. Something about using a mask instead of a bag feels more comfortable to me. I'll leave a pic of what the mask looks like to clarify what one I'm talking about.

It has been proven possible with such a mask but with inconsistent result. Those mask doesn't provide a 100% air seal since its main function is to add oxygen and not really keeping it out. Even if you could keep a good seal involuntarily reflexes when unconscious could compromise the seal very easily. Talking from experience, just having a beard while using a full face mask allowed me to breath quite easily from an airtight source. Even a small and seemingly insignificant leak is enough to sabotage the attempt.

Because of these reasons it's not recommended to use these cheaply made mask, pph advice against it and most of this forum will agree.

There have been a test using a very similar mask, I don't have to source left but I have a picture of the results. One of the subjects didn't have a good enough air seal and as a result it took much longer time until ctb. They concluded the mask is not good for this purpose.

It's unfortunate that rumors spread of bad practices that could potentially damage people for life.

So I guess the better option is stick with ol' reliable man up and use the bag

Well they're alternatives, you could use a Eebd escape hood which has been proven to be a successful method on here. Its advantages are they're relatively cheap and provide means to clear co2 which helps with SI. Read about it here

Then there is scba, scuba method, much more expensive and a bit harder to source parts but provide the fastest and calmest way to ctb via inert gas.

Finally the exit bag/inert megatread, this is filled with valuable information.

@Kapsyl What is the source of this paper? Is this specific to Nitrogen?

No any inert gas should behave equally, since it's a matter of air leaking in.
