Hello, bc of C-PTSD and such issuesI have a hardtime relaxing the fear inside me especially at night

For the last 2 years I've been sleeping with some kinda light on. Harsh lights as well...


Interested in hearing some others siggestions and/or things you've tried including but not limited to:

Herbal things, types of lights, types of blankets/pillows etc etc.

What do you use in the night-time to relax? What have you heard is helpful?

Currently looking into getting a better light for the night-time. Might get some kinda LED-light. I may try a weighted blanket again. I want to get some herbal teas..

Blue light is very soothing. Also lavender essential oil or just lavender scented products. Personally, something soothing to me is a galaxy/space light projector or even better, looking up at the sky and diving into the universe right before sleeping. I also like playing an energy cleansing and protection track in the background. Hugging a big dense pillow is great as well. I find it really comfortable when the room temperature is slightly cold so snuggling up in warm blankets/duvets becomes even more enjoyable and soothing.

About the blue lights...if you Google "Japan Trains blue lights" in the same search it will pull up numerous articles about how in Japan they put blue lights in the train stations. The reasoning was that the blue lights would soothe and subdue people from jumping in front of the trains to commit suicide. they had a real problem with that. I don't know if it has been working or not to cut down on the jumping in front of trains.

Sleep is usually aided by a decrease in ambient light which increases the production of Melatonin which induces sleep.

GABA can also be helpful in reducing intrusive thoughts.

Blue light carries more photonic energy with it because of the frequency. Also because our eyes are less sensitive to blue, many blue lights have more wattage to be discernible. You can experiment to see if blue light is helpful or not, but you may wish to also experiment with red or yellow light.

Sometimes even well intentioned therapy can cause a person to increase their focus on an event or experience that causes them distress. It may be more helpful to distance oneself so that memories can fade. Sleep can frequently be disturbed by nagging thoughts about, finances, a car repair, a conversation that went poorly, or other concern. It can be helpful to have memories or even current concerns pushed off to the side so that sleep can proceed.

Blue light is magic! It makes one's decisions more clear and calmly thought-through, in my experience/opinion. Plus paired with the background tracks, it's ascending to a whole different level of being, to be honest lol. (Recipe for becoming invicible in peace, haha.) Or maybe, I'm just an alien basking in my natural habitat. In that case, nevermind.... *fades into the ether*

Also op, I also wanted to mention locking your door(s) well (and windows too when you're not letting air in) and add additional door locking devices if you can and you feel it will give you peace of mind (they're really useful), the more the better, but it's up to you and your preference. I hope you found something that was helpful to you. :happy:

Listening to ambient music is an excellent sleeping aid. Use headphones for best effect. There are many different types of music that instill different moods and give different dreams.

Ummm......might sound a bit regressive for someone my age but I have a night projector bought off Amazon to make bedroom ceiling look like moon and stars...There are other modes but it's quite chilling to watch shooting stars .

So.... this might not work for you but fake-dreaming really helped me "switch off"

I know there's a technical term for it but I can't remember what it's called, but you basically play a scenario in your head (where you're the main character doing something), and you carry on "fake dreaming"/playing this scenario until you fall asleep. You do this every time you're going to sleep, and eventually you train your body into realising "hey it's time for sleep", to the point where you fall asleep much quicker.

It doesn't have to be anything exciting - for example it could be something as simple as going food shopping, but it has to be super-detailed (like a 3hr Avengers film). Like, you'd picture yourself (3rd person like in a movie) leaving the front door, going to the supermarket and the journey there, picking up fruits/items on the shelves and inspecting/looking at them, having a wonder around, going to the checkout and scanning all the items, packing the items in your bags, etc etc

You do the "supermarket trip" every night when you're trying to sleep, exactly the same details as the night before, and that's it. At first I'd fall asleep whilst trying to work out what I'd do next on the trip, but now I rarely get to the supermarket, and usually fall asleep on the way :happy:

I drink chamomile every night and sometimes take melatonin. I've tried other sleep aid teas like valerian and various blends, but I didn't like any of them. Sometimes I'm still wide awake though even hours later. I've thought about getting a weighted blanket, I've heard they are very calming.

I've had so much trouble sleeping. Currently I'm using a weighted blanket, melatonin, and I usually use an essential oil diffuser with lavender in it. Helps me relax, but so does smoking some indica cannibus. I'm lucky enough to live in a state where it's legal.
Edited to add: I also play sounds on Spotify or YouTube like "Falling Rain, White Noise and my favorite, Stream Sounds."

This probably won't help at all, but I love listening to horror stories to fall asleep to, but in your case horror won't help much, so I'd suggest trying audiobooks of whatever genre of books you like to read. Buy yourself some comfortable headphones with those gummy tips and listen to some audio books with the volume turned down to be pretty low.
