Hi all, new user here. I've decided I no longer want to live. I've been saving up a few bucks, plus my upcoming birthday, should net me enough money to buy me a decently new computer. But I've also been heavy considering buying a shotgun instead.

What do you think it should be?

I'm a PC gamer so I'm a little biased but I've gotta go with the computer, but a shotgun sounds cool too.

hey, mate! welcome to the forum. you'll find the nicest community here, our kind little band of misfits. I'll see you around if you still are. pc gamer as well so a little biased, but I'd say new pc. besides, sometimes getting something new is often uplifting, and it might push you closer to recovery. especially if you already have a gun. it's up to you though! whichever you want more. love and peace, mate:heart:

Survival instinct is really hard to overcome. You're a new user, you just joined, you're debating which one to get, you may not be at that point where you are likely going to be able to overcome survival instinct easily. Committing suicide, or attempting (and failing), is, for most people, very very hard. And I said that as someone who failed an attempt. Also, I could be wrong, some people do commit successful suicide attempts quickly without hesitation... but a lot of people can't, a lot of people fuck up their attempts, and for most people it's very very hard to do it. Most attempts fail. Plus, this is a nice forum, we're not judgmental, and many of us are also very depressed and sometimes it's easier to talk to other depressed people.

i'd say get the computer.

Bonus: computers are fun, RAM and SSD prices keep going up, so get the extra RAM and SSD space now, before it's too late. You may be dead in a year, you may be dead in a 2 years, or you may be alive in 5 or 6 years or even longer. A lot of people are suicidal for a while, at least usually over a year, before they can do it. Not everyone... some people do it fast... but... why not stick around on the forum and get to know people and get the computer?

The shotgun will likely come down in price slightly over time or stay about the same while there is a real SSD and RAM shortage that is affecting the entire world. It makes sense to buy the computer first. Do the financially logical thing and get the computer...

Don't take it from me, take it from @EmptyBottle, my other personality who is only active during the night time and supposedly lives in "Australia" and also knows about computers.

Hey everyone, thanks for all your kind words. I don't currently have any firearm, if I did I would've already CTB with it. I'll think further into the decision. Thank you all!

Are you asking us if you should live or die? Awkward spot to put us in. It does seem best if you think through this more. Feel free to share more of what you're going through if it helps

mmm yep, a new or quality secondhand computer seems a nice idea, before prices rise further.

Personally, I like secondhand, a secondhand dell laptop lasts years, and costs maybe 1/6 of a new laptop (so it felt like a bargain). Thing is, thee aren't too many of my favourite model out there, so I might have to buy either the physically smaller model, or smth slightly different.

The dell held up to weeks of mprime usage (stopped using mprime and it still runs as of this post), while a more modern laptop couldn't complete a few day y-cruncher task.

Also: The five last acts (2015) already lists some free CTB ideas (my favourite is compression), so spending $ if not needed on a shotgun would be overkill for me (plus Australia has tighter gun laws, so not a practical option anyway).

@DeathSweetDeath made a great point the other day. If you're contemplating spending money between killing yourself vs pleasure, it doesn't sound like you're ready to die yet.

It is ultimately one's own decision and in your case, your decision. CTB is indeed a very difficult decision to go through and what @fadedghost said summarizes most CTB attempts. From an utility standpoint and especially if you are hesitant on your decision, then maybe having a new computer at least allows you more options and utility than just a shotgun. While a shotgun allows for CTB, there is little else it can do besides maybe some recreation (target shooting), self defense (against bad actors and those willing to do great bodily harm), hunting (depending on the game and season), and of course, self-deliverance (ending one's own suffering). Having a new computer will allow you to not only browse SaSu, play games (if you are into gaming), and/or do many other things in sentience. I suppose it is possible to sell said computer (assuming fairly new and such) to get a shotgun at some point later in the future..

If I had to save up money without knowing if I can keep my current income stable I would go for a shotgun just to feel relieved.

I'd go with computer, though I'm definitely biased since I like to game and screw around on the internet. If you change your mind, you can always sell it later on anyways

Welcome to the community <3 🍎

We cannot make such decisions for you, that would also be against the forum rules, but please feel free to talk to and with people here, maybe you can find new strength and don't have to make that decision in the first place 🤗

Surfing the web with a shotgun is a bit tricky. If you press the trigger instead of the Enter key, you could open a window at home.
