Literally my best friend, the most loving and beautiful soul, died on Thursday, she had a tumour in her nose, and bled everywhere it was fucking traumatizing. I've got SN ordered now. I have this weird thought going through my head some days like if it was a philosopher I'd say "what's the point in living if dogs can die?". That's how I feel. It highlights a fundamental philosophical reality of the unfairness and misery that permeates life. Or I'm a pretentious dick I dunno

Thanks. She truly was the most loving dog I've ever come across. It killed me to see her that way. Couldn't even be with her right at the end because of Covid :( I hate living, I hate all the shit stuff that happens constantly

it really is, the unfairness of it all, she doesn't deserve it. I can somewhat handle it if she passed in peace it would hurt me, but it was that bad I spent the entire next day cleaning blood from my car and my house. I can't get the images of out my head, it just makes me want to cry

You would be - you're not one of those veggies that makes your dog eat wheat and veggie dog food are you?

Nah I'm not, but what difference does it make. This is an argument with no real conviction at all, it's antagonistic and annoying so I'm out.

My point is that life is animals eating other animals. It might not seem fair, that's just how the world is.

So your dog eats other animals, those animals might havve eaten other animals.

But you're not crying about the animals your dog ate, because your dog is "better" or "more important" than they were.

So in it's life it ate dozens of animals and that was okay. But now the world isn't fair because your dog died.

The world isn't fair, that's how it wrks, things live and things die.

But you are upset because you have formed an emotional attachment where you humanified your dog. It wasn't really any more or less important than those animals it ate.

Do you think, if you loved your dog and it loved you, that it would want you to die?

So why don't you get a puppy from a rescue home and look after it and make it your new best friend, I'm sure your dog would prefer that than you ctb.
Are you a nihilist sir?

Personally I feel tons of guilt whenever I eat or use any form of animal product. My intake is limited at the very least...

Also, we cannot deny the cycle of life. One lifeform consumes another lifeform for survival. Whether that be an animal or plant. We are omnivorous by nature. But I'm not here to argue the morals of it all, or debate whether we need meat or not.

On the topic on why it might make one want to kill themselves if their pet dies; it could feel like losing any family member. That dog clearly meant alot to ScaredToLive. And the dog had suffered too. It's natural to mourn losses. I felt so much grief and trauma after my dog died, he suffered before I had to put him down. I grew up with that dog. I lost the will to live for a while afterwards because I was and still am severely depressed among other issues.

It's hard to replace something that was beloved. Sure they could get a new dog, but I doubt they will move on from the memories and trauma of losing their beloved friend.

The bottom line, it's obviously distressing to ScaredToLive that they lost their dog, and we really shouldn't be judging them why they're in pain, based purely on the fact that their dog ate meat..

@ScaredToLive I'm so sorry about your dog. animals can love like no one else. I understand how not having your best friend around any more, especially given how horrible and traumatic her death sounds like it was, could be something that could be a 'last straw' for yourself. wishing you peace, friend.

I'm sorry for your loss. I know how deep the grief is after losing a true friendship and connection. I feel like I feel the sadness of you cleaning the blood out of the car and house thinking about the suffering she may have endured and seeing the last physical remains of what was a precious being. Trust me I get you big time. Losing a pet, though it's hard to even call them that, because of how close they are to us, especially some dogs who truly are on a humanistic level is heart and soul shattering. Some folks will never understand it unless they've experienced it, believe me. I'm relieved now that she is no longer suffering and free from the burden of her tumour. I hope you get through this tough period and find solace with time. Let out the tears and screams if they're there. Go through all the negative emotions that come up and process it. Do whatever you need to do. It's part of the journey. In time your heartbreak won't be clouding your clarity and peace as much as it is now. Death is a guarantee which no one escapes and it's something every being will go through when it is time. Give it time and let yourself grieve, but try to remember the positive side, that she is no longer suffering as you saw her. Sending you hugs

Do you eat meat or are you a vegetarian? Was your dog a meat eater or a vegetarian?

So if you eat meat, and/or your dog ate meat, did you order SN every time you put the oven on?

Sorry I'm sure it was tramatic and all that, but your dog was an animal, every meal it had was eating another animal, every meal you have is eating another animal.

Why haven't you ordered SN when you had a burger or a steak?

Wasn't the cow or the chicken as close a friend as the dog?

Or are dogs more death-worthy to you than cows and chickens?

I'm struggling to see how dozens and probably hundreds of animals dying to keep you and your dog alive have no impact on you at all, but your dog dies and you want to kill yourself.

Not trying to be mean or insensitive, just a pondering about human nature. And yes - I eat meat.

And no - I can't understand how a dog dying makes you want to kill yourself when you and the dog have been stuffing your faces with chicken and bacon and burgers and steak and all the rest without even thinking about it.

This person is grieving over the loss of what amounts to a family member. You are deplorable for this comment. This person is grieving and it should not matter whether or not they eat meat. This is probably the least empathetic comment I've ever seen. It's kind of incredible how you can just shoehorn your own values into someone else's post about their immense grief and pain. Your comment might just be the shittiest comment I've ever seen on the internet. "Your dog died, but have you ever eaten a hamburger?" Insanely self absorbed.

this person is grieving about their dog and trying to find peace, and you're trying to find a deeper meaning to it?
there's a difference between a beloved pet's death and a cow that was killed for you to eat; not the species, but the attachment to the dog.
if a child grows a deep attachment to a pet rock and their parent throws it away, it's inhuman because the rock meant something to the child. in this situation, it's not a lifeless stone in question, it's a living, breathing best friend that meant the world to this person. i have a pet cat myself and i can't imagine what this person is going through. if they want to leave this world and find peace, then so be it. we're here to support them.

Wtf kind of tone-deaf comment is this. I don't cry when I eat a burger because I didn't raise the cow from birth as a life long companion. The guy didn't eat the dog after it died you complete moron.

Incredibly sorry for your loss OP. The idea of losing either of my cats crushes me because you just can't explain what's happening to an animal, and they only radiate love :(

Edit: came back and realised I'm in no position to call anyone else a moron lmao. But I don't think it's what OP needs atm

I am sorry I was trying to suggest their dog would probably prefer if they got a new dog and loved that rather than ctb.

I appreciate I said it in a bad way and said some things that in hindsight are not appropriate.

Are you really being that insensitive and mean? This used to be such a supportive community. How can you be so cold hearted to not care about another person's suffering? I guess your one of those people who says "it was just a dog". Dogs and any of our pets are like family and friends to those of us who have no one! And you derailed the thread too making it all about your personal thoughts and "other animals" who get eaten as if that makes the OP feel better!! Honestly this is the most disrespectful jerk comment I think I have ever seen on this site!!! Ugh that's just sick to say what you said ...

@ScaredToLive I am SO sorry for the loss if your dog! My heart goes out to you. I lost my beloved dog over a year ago. I understand how hard it is. Our pets are not just "animals" they are our family and our best friends. Sending you hugs. Also I'm sorry someone posted something so rude... generally this is a very supportive community.

Sorry OP.

Despite your good intentions, it just came off wrong and seethed a bit of toxicity. Your initial couple posts seemed to be more of a guilt trip rather than an attempt to de-escalate the situation. Otherwise, it's nice of you to apologize for the misunderstanding.
