I remember reading about a method last year that involved a confined space (car, closet) and mixing different chemicals. Breathing in the vapors was enough to knock you out and cause severe damage. I'm trying to find it but I can't find it in resources, am I misremembering?

That can be one of several methods, but most commonly hydrogen sulfide (H2S) or carbon monoxide (CO).
