I've always wanted to go to film school. When I realized that there was no way out of the pre-planned path my parents made towards being a doctor (typical asian kid villain origin story), I stopped watching movies. Literally anything that could remind me of how much I enjoyed film, I avoided like the plague. I was scared that if I was reminded of the happiness I've involuntarily traded for this hellish pre-med course then I would explode.

But I've finally made peace with my plan to ctb and I want to spend my last days watching as much movies as I can, so now I'm making a list! Any recommendations? It doesn't have to be the best. It would also be cool if you could share why you liked the movie you're recommending.

My emotional and mental state won't let me watch a movie or listen to music. I don't enjoy it and it usually makes me feel worse about the situation versus what could have been. It is disheartening.
I guess part of the depression and the anxiety/fear etc.. is lack of interest or enjoyment in the things I used to enjoy.

I would recommend both Donnie Darko and Primer. Both are sci-fi and kinda mindfucks.

It probably depends on what genres you enjoy. I like all sorts of films but especially thought provoking films with a twist. Expect you may have already seen a lot of these:

'The Matrix' (1999) First is obviously the best but I enjoy the characters in all of them. Great action films.

'The Machinist' (2004). Christian Bale lost a crazy amount of weight for this. An interesting thriller with a twist.

'Memento' (2000). Another mystery thriller. Very interestingly filmed. The protagonist has a short memory condition- so it's filmed in a series of segments to match his memory.

'Spirited Away' (2001). A heart warming anime.

'Elephant Song' (2014). Thought provoking and sad.

'Blackfish' (2013). Documentary about a killer whale held in captivity that killed 3 people. Also very sad.

It's really going to depend on what you are looking to feel though. How about you? What are you favourite films? I do love films. They can provide a bit of escapism.

It's Such A Beautiful Day. I didn't really like it but I know why someone would. It's basically "my metamorphosis begins" as a film. Hope you like it

'Far from the Madding Crowd' - has some tragic moments but overall a interesting movie. Also has some beautiful music

It looks like that one's been remade quite a few times. Which one do you think is best?

I think I want to watch it.

I Don't Feel At Home in This World Anymore is pretty solid. Comedy/drama I guess. It's funnier than the name suggests.

I've only watched the 2015 version, which I assume is the latest one.
