This is my first post on here so apologies for any formatting mistakes, I'm just rambling my feelings as they come to me mostly

Last night I lost most of the vision in my right eye, everything is blurry and cloudy now and I can't make out anything more than simple shapes. Its my fault honestly I was given eye drops to take but I haven't been consistent. No,it's not reversible the only way to fix it is with surgery otherwise I'm just like this now. I still have almost perfect vision in my left eye which is cool I guess. I'll turn 20 in October and I live with my parents, my father has the same condition as me, aniridia, as I inherited it from him. He's legally blind and needs a magnifying glass to read text. My mom is pretty normal and has a career in eye care. Im afraid to tell them (mostly her) because as I said before it's mostly my fault this happened and it could have been prevented, I never really took care of my health the way I should, I'm overweight, don't brush my teeth often etc. I'm just surprised it caught up to me this fast, just last month I was at the eye doctor and they said everything was fine and they just wanted my eye pressure a little lower, I was already losing vision in this eye but it wasnt terrible I just couldn't read things at a distance, now half my field of view is gone just because I couldn't be bothered to take my eye drops. And it's not coming back. This is my life now. I'm taking a semester off of school this fall as I failed both my last two, I'm basically a drop out. I don't know what to do anymore, I've been suicidal for probably 3 or 4 years now. This just feels like the straw that broke the camals back. I don't know if I want comfort, someone to convince me not to do it, or just a place to vent, id appreciate anything at this point, thanks for reading

If your in the UK you dont need to tell her and you can just get the surgery by the NHS if you want it

hey 2 things

context, i used to work in a hospital
but this i am just some random dude on the internet
this is not formal medical advice

1) might wanna check if its aniridia vs something else e.g. retinal detachment. are you getting flashers and floaters? or feel like theirs a curtain over yoir eye. im no specialost, but seems like there might be more going on

maybe go see a doctor, or go to emergency room

consider telling your mom so that she can help you. if she is frustrated yet is going to be helping you with this medical emergency then it is worth it. if you are able to get this necessary urgent medical care on your own do that as well. good luck.

holy god that sounds horrible.. and trying to live with 2D vision is a huge pain; you can't tell depth at all and people don't realize how much 3D vision helps you navigate life..

you need to tell your parents.. i mean it isn't completely your fault because this is hereditary.. just tell them some thing like you've been using the drops mostly but some days you were stressed out and forgot or some thing..

also you need to brush your teeth every day or you will have bad teeth later in life.. and the dentist is a nightmare to have to go to.. showers don't matter as much but you need to brush your teeth once or twice a day (when you wake up and before bed)..

as far as what to do with your life, i can't decide that.. it depends on how you feel and what can be done with your eyeball and every thing.. but i hope you don't find your self in too much suffering for too long if the suffering in this life gets extremely bad and it looks like there are no solutions to mitigate the pain..

but yeah, for now tell your parents and they might be upset for a few minutes but then they can start to give you options or advice.. you can't just try to hide some thing extreme like that from them.. for how long??.. they will find out eventually some how, so you might as well just tell them now..

love and light..

Doesn't matter if they'll get mad at you, you're fucking blind and you need to fix that
