Anyone else feel like it's impossible to find a job? I graduated half a year ago and I still can't get anything, I've done everything I could, good grades, internships, projects but I feel like I'm wasting hours and hours on job applications. Definitely one of the less valid reasons to feel like shit but this has really been weighing on me.

Yeah it's a brutal market right now. Lot of ghost jobs out there too. Some companies put out job opportunities that they know they're going to fill out internally too.

I know it's kind of like the "you're not alone" thing where it doesn't change the circumstance but it's not just you if you were wondering that.

yeah, I'm so sorry~ :( It's sooo bad~ >_< and I think the president said, "The American Dream is bigger than ever before~ No one could fill positions a few years ago, and now, the candidates are overflowing~ It's hard to get a job!" what a jerk! :/

I've been applying to jobs for months now and even been rejected from gas stations and every single retail of a certain brand within 35 minutes of here~ >_< Thankfully, I got a promotion recently and am living with my parents, so it's not like I'm drying, but beyond that, it really feels like you have to know people to get jobs~ :/ It's also crazy how little they pay you... :( The only offer I got since my promotion was for a job for 6 hours a week for $10 an hour~ :/ Plus, even when one gets employed, they're typically underemployed (currently, am working 20 hours per week in a field not unrelated to my degree), and everyone wants full availability, so it's near-impossible to find a 2nd job~ >_<

In addition, I literally just got rejected from a job I applied for a year ago (which tbf, I expected as soon as I got the automated email response)~ >_< aaaaaaa~

Advice
Anyways, when I got laid off of my 2nd job, I went back into substitute teaching~ Teaching itself is not as vacant as people claim, so you probably shouldn't try it for job security (I unfortunately did~ :/)~ However, substitute teaching basically lets you choose your schedule somewhat, so it's really good because you can still do it even when you get a 2nd job but are still underemployed~ You can also try tutoring (generally has bad pay and/or bad hours) and becoming a classroom aide (teacher without the pay nor responsibility) too~

If you can try to connect with your college and/or "go back" to college to get a campus job, that is certainly something to try~ Since colleges typically only let foreign students do jobs over the breaks (summer, Christmas, etc.), you can try to get a seasonal job (summer camp during the summer and retail during the fall rush) to make up for that time lost~

Supposedly, gas stations are very easy to get jobs at~ I have not had that same experience, but it's definitely something to try~ Working at a warehouse should be kept as an emergency option because it will damage you for the rest of your life, and they will lay you off without caring whatsoever~ Part of the my job at the library is with a job center, and the only people I know for sure were hired that went to me for help were going for security positions with Allied Universal Security, but both already had years of experience~

I hope any of this can be helpful for you~ ^_^

I would say it's ok to be the main reason.

I've experienced it. Too many mergers. Still happening
Too many immigrants. Not enough jobs were for all.

It's not the immigrants problem. That's propaganda being fed to us by the 1%; the same people who are getting rid of the jobs around us. The ultra wealthy want to divide us (working class). If anything is to blame for taking jobs, it's AI. I couldn't find a job with computers post graduation bc every company just made AI do their shit. It doesn't matter to them if it's a good job they just want to put more money in their pockets. The ultra wealthy are killing the working class. Everyone of us: native to the nation or immigrants. I don't know what to do either tho

Ok but I work in IT and have seen three companies I currently work with eliminate their IT staff and replace them with low cost immigrant staff. Although I should clarify and say some are also offshore.
I've seen small impact from ai, mostly in automating workflows.

you can blame the companies if you want, that's fine. Still, thousands of jobs have been lost. I've been seeing it since h1b started.

I blame myself too. I wish I was smarter and had a backup plan. Just wanting out instead, a lot because my career is over; sucks.

Yeah, you really think it's the immigrants issue tho? Immigrants are scraping for pennies like the rest of us. The people taking the outsourced jobs are also scraping for pennies. Meanwhile, there's evil people like bozos who own most of the world's wealth and conspire with governments WORLDWIDE to hurt every single one of us. Don't point the finger at your fellow worker. It's the ultra wealthy driving the job decrease through monopolizing, lobbying, and prioritizing their wealth above all else.

Sucks about the IT career tho. Don't blame yourself either. It's not you; it's how late stage capitalism is. It's not about your smarts. This government just accelerated the destruction wrought by billionaires, and no one working in tech could've predicted that everything would enshitify so fast. You'll figure out something, but it's okay to grieve.

Don't blame yourself or another worker. You're putting your hate in the wrong place. We need to stand united and realize what the root of the issue is: the ultra wealthy and the power they hold.

Again just my experience but my first company sold and our ceo, who could have stopped it, made 14 million from his shares instead. Our other executives less than that.
So there's a lot of focus on billionaires. Not saying it isn't valid but many more in a much lower range are destroying our lives.
An entire company was wiped out.

My current company, some got five million. Average people honestly. The first day of the new company taking over they immediately let 13 people go. Far more since then. Lives ruined.

Five million is a lot of money. But taking it means you will remove salary and benefits for many of your coworkers. What scum. And it happens every day. Over and over.

I don't know what this is anymore. It's ruined my life. Simple greed.

If I could have a wish it would be to eliminate private equity. Anyone working for them have to know the evil they're part of. They can all drop dead for all I care.
Sorry for the rant.

This is accurate. There are a lot of name brand American companies that have positions I would take, but they're hiring people in India, Egypt, and so on. Everything in this market got worse after DOGE. Like, immediately worse.

Well, I've been seeing it since late 90s. Started so slow but now insane. Neither party, for all their talk of American jobs, does a thing about it.

I managed to get one this summer which is my last summer! I wish you equal luck! I wish I had a lot of advice but it was truly just numbers, but what I can say it this: apply to as much as you can and tailor your resume for each role, throw in keywords to try and get past ATS (only if it's true).

No I feel that way too, and it's a big reason why I've been as depressed as I am. It's especially hard being a neurodivergent person that doesn't have much work experience and only has an associate's degree for education, so yea. Also totally valid thing to be depressed about btw, it sucks

Yes, it is definitely an immigration issue. For 25 years I have watched the influx of H1Bs from India into technical positions. Initially they took you younger folks jobs. Then, as they matured and moved into managerial positions, they sped up the influx of H1Bs to the exclusion of American candidates (regardless of race or gender). It's real, it's documented, it's not racism nor politics….it just is (shrug shoulders).
