One of my reasons for wanting to kill myself is my feeling of inferiority regarding other people. I feel genuinely stupid, like I'm the most uncultured, ignorant person on this whole planet. I'm trying to make reason with the fact that it's ok to be dumb, and that I'm simply born to enjoy life as it is without making a significant impact on the world.

I'm very mean to myself but I wouldn't want anyone else to feel like this. But it's very difficult not to feel this way. I will contact with a psychiatrist soon, I hope he can give me more insight into this.

Judging by how you wrote your post and how dumb the average person is I don't think you seem or likely are dumb. Now are you intelligent enough to make a significant impact solely due to that intelligence, I would say thats unlikely for anyone. I do relate to the desire to be extraordinary and am currently grappling with the fact that I likely never will be extraordinary and my deep need to be seen and admired as such.

what really counts as "smart" nowadays is pretty silly, imo, and i think you shouldn't base your views of yourself around it. obviously, easier said than done, but most people won't acknowledge your intelligence unless it's a common, socially acceptable form of intelligence. people like me don't get treated as intelligent, even if we are, because of how different we are. i think maybe you should think about whether you fit into the same box as me.

I likely have below average intelligence. I make up for it by having insatiable curiosity about the world around me, and being playful, caring and supportive of my friends. I try to learn new things, watch good films, learn about politics, etc. I failed at life in terms of a career. But I think I'm a pretty decent person.

May I know what made you feel this way?

This might not be that easy but please don't be too hard on yourself. Sometimes, when we're not feeling so good, our brain decides to focus on all these mean things and make them sound like the truth, but they're not.

You're not dumb. You're still learning. If you're feeling "uncultured" and "ignorant," you still have time to learn and you're allowed to take your own pace with that. I hope you can allow yourself some grace because you deserve it. And yes it's okay to just be here and chill. I'm sure you're already making significant impact in your own ways too.

I hope you get the help that you need from your psychiatrist.

I can guarantee you that you're not dumb. If anyone is dumb it's me after suffering multiple head traumas and concussions. No good at math, retaining information, knowing how to do basic adult things like pay bills and a myriad of other things. I was going to add more to my comment and I instantly forgot what it was because I am in fact that stupid. Hope you can figure things out with that psychiatrist.

I can say for myself I'm not dumb, yet here I am, not making a huge change to myself, nor apply the knowledge I acquired to change for the better. I'd say intelligence is not a big criterion for everything.

Thanks for the insight, friend. In my case, I don't even want to be someone well-known or to have done something extremely important. I just want to feel human and on the same level as other people. I feel like I'm in another plane of reality and can't see the world as others do.

People just seem much more intelligent. It guts me when younger folks have more baggage in regards to media and the arts or whatnot. I wish I was a cinephile or someone who knew lots about politics or something lol. I hope to learn to cope with the anxiety, deep envy and sense of inferiority which leads me to wanting to die.

Thank you for the kind words, friend; they truly mean the world to me. We should all give ourselves some grace. I hope someday to love myself at least half as much as I love everyone else on this planet.

I'm sorry for being so negative in what is the Recovery forum. I just wanted to make the point that if anyone here feels like the stupidest person alive, don't, because that person is in fact me lol.

Hey, no need to apologize at all. I think part of recovery is acknowledging we're not okay and when we've gathered enough courage to be vulnerable, we share that with our trusted community so we can get help, like what you did here! I know I can't take away the feeling completely but I'm hoping it made things even just a tiny, tiny bit lighter.

Please try your best not to compare yourself with other people, especially those who were gifted with "normalcy." For us who have a different (usually difficult) background, most of our time and energy are often spent on survival while they have extra to spare for leisure. So of course they can "do the hot topics" (Wendy Williams tone lol)
You're not really behind. You have your own timeline. It's just going to be different.

Oh I wish Tumblr were still a thing lol I feel you would've loved it there. Learned so much about history, pop culture, and arts there.
Do you use social media? I know people are fucking annoying there sometimes but if you can ignore them, I'd recommend tailoring your feed based on your interests.
I feel that can be a good start to your learning journey. I join all sorts of groups on Facebook haha like for politics, I have this group called "Dystopian late-stage capitalism horrors repackaged as heartwarming stories" ;-;;-; The title page sounds very meme-like but people discuss in the comments and I learn from them (while doing the info validation in the background of course. Some people just be saying anything sometimes haha)
