I know that depression comes with hippocampal shrinkage, which leads to memory loss, but I never would think it would get this bad.
I can't recall most of what people tell me and it leads to me being seen as uncaring.
I confuse people in my memories: a friend could show me a meme that they sent me in the past and I would say "oh yeah I saw this meme already, this other friend showed me" while they look at me deadpan and tell me they were the one to do so.

It is so fucking embarassing and I feel so stupid.

Plus, I can't recall my childhood, I've forgotten almost everything.

It's not as severe as you describe for me personally, but I definitely noticed it being considerably worse that it used to be. Some events just blur into each other, I couldn't tell you what happened when, chronology is kinda fucked and some stuff just blurred out, although that last thing could also be trauma related.

I've got some pretty bad dissociation so most of my life is a blur. Constantly ppl tell me stories about myself and I have no idea what they're talking about. I sometimes even snap to awareness somewhere with no memory of how I got there. So it's pretty debilitating.

My memory has gotten significantly worse, and I never knew why. Part of me believes it's from the medication I'm taking, but I have become physically dependent on it now. So I cannot stop taking it.

It makes me so sad. My grades were superb because of how much I could remember, and now it feels impossible. I do not quite understand "dissociation" but sometimes I feel like I am not existing, if that makes sense. It is an odd feeling. I wonder if that is related too?

dissociation could be what you are describing which then would lead to not being able to recall what happened during that time. Ketamine or nitrous oxide (laughing gas) also has that effect

Yeah, completely fucked up. The worst thing is, my memory used to be excellent. Back in highschool, I was so good with memorizing dates, names and small details about new people. Nowadays my brain just refuses to retain any Information.

i remember very little of childhood and my memory in recalling some stuff is definitly messed up. i seem to struggle now some with talking outloud sometimes as well, like i cant figure out what word im trying to think of. i can memorize words though, like from scripts, and say them outloud just fine, which is weird when i seem so affected everywhere else. but recalling when stuff happened, if i already did something, when something is due, stuff like that i struggle with a lot.

Kind of. I went through many things which could be the reason for why my brain became like this, from insomnia to covid.
I like to put everything I need to do on daily reminders, alarms, and also use all types of tactics to remember what I want myself to do (e.g turning a random object upside down in my desk and associate it to chore X before sleeping so I can remember to do X when I wake up and see the object). When I meet someone new, I immediately try to associate their face to some feature and visualise it in my mind, otherwise I will probably forget who this person was. But nothings surpasses how bad my spacial memory is, I have already lost myself going to places which I already visited like 5 times before lol.

now that you mentioned it, yeah my memory is getting WAY worse than it needs to be
that was one of many reasons why i picked up journaling so i can probably recall, but even i couldn't remember what happened yesterday for me to write about for today.
i end up taking a few solid minutes to try and remember anything

Yes, it is sort of like that! I forget what I was doing, what I was doing before, and sometimes forget where I am all at once. It is a very bad feeling I am starting to get often.

Wish my memory is bad. Cptsd haunts me and I got flashback of everything that happened to me within seconds. Trying to regulate the nervous system LOL but I do pretend I don't remember people alot, just to avoid engaging with them
