We wanted to share a quick update with the community.

Our public expense ledger is now live, allowing anyone to see how donations are used to support the ongoing operation of the site.

Over the past year, increased regulatory pressure in multiple regions like UK OFCOM and Australia's eSafety has led to higher operational costs, including infrastructure, security, and the need to work with more specialized service providers to keep the site online and stable.

If you value the community and would like to help support its continued operation, donations are greatly appreciated. If you wish to donate via Bank Transfer or other options, please open a ticket.

What do you guys think? Sure it has some downsides, like mass data collection, and social media is destroying peoples minds. But there are upsides. For one, internet forums like this which give socially awkward people a second chance at making friends, wouldnt exist. Then again, I think in the past society was structured in a way that made making friends easier. Overall, I think the internet is a good thing

It's had an overwhelmingly positive affect on my life. I love it for entertainment, socialising and learning. I love the convenience and instantaneousness of it. It saves so much time.

But then, I'm of an age that didn't grow up with social media. Maybe it would be a different story then. I don't like social media. I found it to have a more negative affect on my life than positive so, I deleted or suspended my profiles.

It's like lots of things in life though- it depends how you use it as to how good or bad it is. I simply don't go near sites that will make me feel shit! Simple really.

Ive taught myself so much stuff through the internet its unreal. I love that I can do all those things without having to leave my house. I grew up with social media but I never used it because I was too autistic to understand the appeal lol. But from what I hear, its so bad for the people that use it. Similarly are time-waster things like reddit and tiktok, a lot of stuff on there exists only to get an emotional reaction out of you. I believe if you use the internet correctly, it can be so beneficial to you with very few, if any, downsides.
how come?

The internet is a double edged sword.

Without it I would not socialize at all, but it also functions as an archive my social ineptitude.

Something else I find irritating is when I look back on my posts and see that I acted immaturely in an attempt to pointlessly gain the approval of others. Without the internet I would not even remember these moments.

Books are more fun, but less accessible since they either require access to a library or money to acquire them.

In concept good but also bad because you get to hide behind a profile on the internet, and then people lose basic human decency.

The Internet is an inanimate object without feeling, it is neither capable of good or bad... but like all tools, humans find a way to use it in the worst ways. Invariably people will abuse everything if given enough time and opportunity...

You can kill someone with a bar of soap... but soap is great for cleaning. When you think about it... there are very few things humans have invented that are actually intended only for harm (guns, bombs, biological weapons, etc.). There are far more human inventions that are intended for benign reasons, entertainment, or actual good... but almost everything can and has been abused by someone to cause harm. It's inevitable.
