As far as my research taught me, SN is (very) uncomfortable but not really painful. Not for more than 15 minutes, usually less. After that, you are unconscious for about one hour. Then you are dead.
Of course this may vary, everyone is different.
Double dosage is a bad idea: you would be more likely to puke and fail.

Obviously, I didn't experience it myself. But the taste seems to be terrible, your throat may hurt, your stomach will try to throw up. You will have to struggle for about ten minutes. In case of victory, you make it for eternity.

I think the most uncomfortable symptom is the increased heartrate. As your blood oxygen levels drop your brain will make your heart pump faster to try and get more oxygen to your tissues. Survivors of SN have said it felt similar to a heartrate you'd get while going for a run. Honestly though I think panic is the biggest obstacle to overcome when someone takes SN. The increased heartrate, nausea and possible vomiting are unpleasant for sure, but bearable if one keeps calm. The most common cause of failure for SN is being found or panicking and calling for help.

Those will help for sure, but you need to have realistic expectations. You will most likely feel some form of discomfort until your oxygen levels get low enough to go unconscious. You have to be mentally prepared for that possibility.

Here is a post from someone who made an SN attempt recently. In this user's case the only thing he took before the SN was advil. He didn't feel any pain, just discomfort from a rapid heartrate. The reason for failure is he panicked and sought help from a family member.

I've read reports of anywhere from 5-40 minutes before unconsciousness. It depends on multiple factors and everyone is different.

Something that you find uncomfortable might feel painful for others.

SN is certainly nowhere near as painful as choosing to staying alive. But seriously to me SN doesn't sound that bad from what I've read. There is a reason why so many people want to obtain it on here. Of course it doesn't sound as peaceful as N but still more preferable to methods like hanging and jumping.
