You will most likely have a burning sensation in your lungs due to them filling up with water but as someone who almost drowned in a pool when I was younger it can be peaceful and I don't really remember being in that much pain at first. Do you have the ability to take something like melatonin? that might help

That is not how melatonin works.

I think the most painful part is how long it takes and not knowing when it will finally be over while it keeps getting worse.

I haven't tried drowning but I have tried suffocation and specifically tying a plastic bad around my head. I try to keep myself as calm as possible and also continue to remind myself that the "hot feeling" in my chest is purely a bodily response to CO2. It's just that I am only able to do so much... it feels like it's taking forever when I wish it would just make me pass out... the suffocation feeling keeps getting worse and more painful (I try to continue calming myself down mentally and remembering that it's a simple bodily response and that it will be over soon, I just have to endure it a bit longer). I just get too impatient and can't take it. I try to think of all the reasons I should let it happen and keep going but it feels like endless torment. I am not passing out probably due to adrenaline. Maybe if there was a little timer I could see that would tell me how much was left before I finally passed out and passed away, I would do better, but I honestly am not even sure, because it is just so painful. I also start to get scared that once I do pass out, I'll wake up alive and in extreme agonizing pain somehow (like idk who knows, maybe air started leaking in or I ripped the bag and didn't remember idk!)

So just from my experience with suffocation, I would say drowning would be likely as painful and also be as scary as jumping (because it keeps getting more and more unbearable and you have no idea how much longer you must endure it). And (at least for me) you don't pass out even when your vision starts to get grainy, your body just keeps fighting to stay alive just so that you continue to experience more of the pain and internal panic that is hard to subdue.

If you never forced yourself to hold your breath or been pinned down or choked then yes drowning is painful. If you don't know how to swim it's a good method. But I think if you have enuf of a brain you could escape in time (like I did) and I don't regret that at all. The pain receptors and danger floods your mind it's bonkers. If you successfully decides to try and want to go back because of the pain then it'll be too late. It's extremely painful losing your breath forcefully since you made the choice
