sometimes i question if death is permeant

once i die is everything "black" forever, will "i" not just be reborn and live as someone else for the many years the earth will continue on?
how do we become conscious and how does that end it confuses me.

We have no way of knowing until we get there, unless you adopt a religion I suppose.

This is one of the only things that worries me tbh. I don't believe in an afterlife or reincarnation or any of that but the thought of it being a possibility since none of us really know terrifies me.

It depends on your beliefs. Imo, this is it, the only life we have. After we die, our bodies will decay until nothing is left, itll be over once you ctb, there may be an afterlife if we're lucky through. Byt if you were to be "reborn" as someone else, you wouldnt be the same person, so dont worry, we will get eternal sleep, thats guaranteed.

i doubt its possible to remember this life at all if there is the possibility of rebirth

Yeah of course, just the thought of a possibility of ending up with another life and going through the same feelings I have been during this one is an unnerving thought to me.

I believe It's permanent. There will be nothingness, because if you mess with someone's brain(with surgery and whatnot) then their whole psyche can change accordingly - so if you kill the brain, then the psyche dies and "you" are gone. Religions help people cope and soothes their ego by telling them there's a continuum after death

i get you, a never ending cycle. the majority of people never feel suicidal though so there is a good chance at a good life. even in this reality.

The way I read the evidence, death is the end. There is nothing whatever after it. (A more carefully worded way of putting it - if I was talking to philosophy students, for example - is that I can find no evidence whatever of any kind of existence after death, so there is no reason to suppose that there is any existence afte death.)

I hope there is nothing after death.
An end to consciousness sounds relaxing.

To me, it is. It's our brain that forms our consciousness. If that's gone – it's dark forever without knowing it.

There was a thread where someone here tried to discover why their attempt failed. The first response they got was: "How do you know it failed? Welcome to hell!" – well, we never know, but that would be a cruel simulation. Imagine you succeed in ctb just to wake up in a parallel universe where your attempt just failed, and everything else is the same – forever and ever.

I guess no one knows for absolutely sure. I suppose it depends on what you consider to be consciousness or 'you' as well. I imagine when we think of being self aware, we think of things like having perception and the memory to remember it.

I personally believe that consciousness lives within the brain. I'm not convinced we are born fully conscious though- not in terms of how we think as we grow. I don't have any memories for instance for the first couple years of life. Maybe I was exhibiting personality traits that early on but I think it's more likely we are just acting on impulse as babies. The 'us' we think about I imagine doesn't really start to form until later. So- I feel like it develops as we do- ie. as our brains develop. I'm not convinced it's something magical or spiritual. I think it's just because we don't fully understand it that we think of it like that.

Seeing as consciousness seems to depend on brain states- I don't even have quite the same experience of life when I am asleep compared to when I'm awake. Plus- I have no memories/dreams at all from being under anaesthetic- I feel like when the brain dies, we will too.

I imagine it will be like not being born- I don't have any memory of that either. One moment we're here, the next, we're gone. I personally think there's a lot more to worry about if there IS something after this! I suppose I see death as hopefully just sleep but without the waking up bit that made you realise you had fallen to sleep. I can't wait to not have the worry of waking up...

how do we become conscious and how does that end
Imagine becoming so absolutely present in your consciousness that you could not die because you are too present for a "past" and a "future" to enter your mind.
No birth. No death. Just absolute consciousness.

If you could achieve such a level of presence, you would literally become immortal.

What if death was nothing other than the story in your mind that "I will die"?
How would you know the difference between "real death" and your story of it? What if that difference is itself a story?

What would happen if you never again had the thought that you were born and never again had the thought that you will die?

"But if I do that, then I'll die!"

Will you?

Is this just philosophy, or is this actually possible? ;)

We may not fully understand how consciousness is produced, Consciousness is almost certainly a result of neuron's in our brain/to a much lesser degree our gut. Consciousness doesn't exist in 99% of baryonic matter. It's pretty localized to planet Earth (and probably a handful of other planets in other galaxies) in an immensely massive universe. There's definitely still a lot we don't know about the universe, but there's a lot more scientific evidence indicating life (consciousness) ends when electricity stops running through our neurons because our heart stopped. None of the unknowns in science show any indication in life after death or that consciousness is fundamental in anyway to the universe

Yknow, there is a thing i would like to know: why, and how are we here? Realistically, there shouldnt be anything that exists, after all, if nothing exists, there cant be anything, our suffering and existence shouldnt even exist. Even if you believe in god or the big bang, you cant explain how everything came into existence on the first place.

I would fuckin hope so! Otherwise what's the point of CTB?

I don't want to die and then come to another plane of existence or being just to have to deal with bullshit again, if people are involved then 100% gonna be tons of ass holes everywhere. And if there is a heaven or hell or whatever, why the fuck would I wanna hang out in either of those places. Worst would be ending up in a sort of limbo forced to wander or some evil shit... Just hope once it's over it's all done and that's it.

The child in me would like to hold on to hope in reincarnation, but realistically speaking this is it. Nothing more, nothing less, we simply just cease to exist and the Earth moves on without us.

I don't think anyone can really answer that question, but all we can assume is that we will experience nothing.

I suspect that it will be proven in the future than consciousness only exists in the brain.

There is no ghost inside the machine.

I very strongly believe that we just permanently cease to exist once we've left this world, death is complete nothingness where we won't even be aware of the fact that we are gone. This is why I view death as being ideal, as it's finally freedom from this cruel burden that was so unfairly forced onto us, the non existent cannot suffer and there are no disadvantages to being dead.
To me any afterlife theories are just fictional concepts invented by people who were unable to come to terms with the true meaningless nature of our existence where we are just destined to cease existing and be forgotten about.

it is so crazy to think about how or why we are doing anything on this world, at this point the main goal is consumption and so many peoples goals are to find love... but why

haha... its crazy to grasp, i know ill be gone but will i live as someone elses concious afterwards.
Imo just chatgpt proved that all we are is neural networks. The weights of those connections between neurons changed though learning. The new paid chatgpt is much more advanced and can reason gpt4 . Passed the bar exam 90th percentile. Imo gpt5 will surpass most humans.

Yeah death is permanent non-existence. A human is just a brain . Once the brain dies that human will never exist again....

No one alive can offer the answer to this question, but we will all find out eventually.

The scientific mind would have it that there is nothing after death. The brain rots, and this there is nothing to contain the conscious mind. It would be oblivion, and if this is so, then all is well. We will cease to exist, and that's fine.

My hope is that the consciousness lives on in some way, and that it is a peaceful existence free from worry. I myself wish only for peace.
