it is so crazy to think about how or why we are doing anything on this world, at this point the main goal is consumption and so many peoples goals are to find love... but why

i imagine it is as it was before we were born, but was that just a previous death...
There was no "before we were born", our non-conscious existence began when we were just some little sperm, we will only experience what its like to be dead once our life ends.

haha... its crazy to grasp, i know ill be gone but will i live as someone elses concious afterwards.
I'm convinced we're doomed to reincarnate over and over again, but i do wonder if it has to be as another "character" or if you get the chance to repeat this life in order to fix the mistakes you made.

Consciousness could take many strange forms. Do things around us have proto-consciousness?

Are we currently like the gut bacteria in a greater organism, that we don't have enough intelligence to perceive? And after death will we merge into its consciousness?

once i die is everything "black" forever, will "i" not just be reborn and live as someone else for the many years the earth will continue on?
how do we become conscious and how does that end it confuses me.
I think it's all about what you believe. We're honestly all part of the universe, and we're all connected. Every single living thing is a part of the universe but with an invisible barrier that doesn't give them universal knowledge and traps them in consciousness and survival, and once you die and separate from the human vessel, you can honestly do whatever you want, lol. Can't wait until I'm there. You just find peace in existing when you're dead. I say that because there is proof: people have died and then were able to look down at their unconscious bodies and see the paramedics do stuff and identify what they looked like or things across the room that they wouldn't have been able to see in their bodies. That's the universal consciousness, the "all knowledge." It's damn real.

That would boil it down to people becoming ghosts

This is a good question. There's no way of answering it, of course. I'd like to believe that somewhere between spiritual and scientific theory is the truth. And that's probably what it is. Some combination of the two.

I have come out of the void of non existence to be born into consciousness one time that I know of.

When I die I'll go back to that non existence.

Which begs the question, if I can go from non existence to consciousness once, what's to stop it happening again ?
I'm convinced we're doomed to reincarnate over and over again, but i do wonder if it has to be as another "character" or if you get the chance to repeat this life in order to fix the mistakes you made.

If given the choice that's exactly what I'd pick. Go back to when I was born, to the exact same world parameters where the only thing that can behave differently is myself. Hopefully my intuition would be emboldened and I make better decisions and live a better life and avoid where I've got to this time round.

how come?

It makes the most sense. It would be absurd to only have a short experience of life on earth and then just vanish. There's so much more, so it just can't end there. Also people on the threshold that has come back from 'the other side' almost always have a story to tell about the place that is there.

But even if it wouldn't be, then it doesn't matter, as that is what will be of us anyway, and where there is nothing, there is no problem with such a fact either.

I think biologically and consciously we die when we die, lights out forever. But we also live on symbolically through the impact we had on the world, whether it's through children or actions or simply our material presence interacting with the universe. So long as we existed, we will continue to exist, we just won't be conscious. We aren't just the rock dropped into the pond, we are the ripples we leave behind as well.

The heat death and entropy of the universe is what really scares me... If ALL life dies in the far future, then we truly live in a nightmare and death is something worth fearing. Just my two cents

i think i lack the capacity to truly understand "forever" and "permanent". it feels like im stunted in that sense, it's hard to grasp that something can truly be "forever". so im not sure honestly

If we exist in an multiverse however then we have an infinite supply of universes to be born and die in. Maybe that's even more terrifying. There may never be an end to consciousness !

Lol you're right, I'm not sure whether multiverse make me more comfortable or less. If there are more, then we're even MORE insignificant, but it also means that there will always be eyes out there to see the beauty and colors of existence (even if mine don't see the colors too well)

Everyone's take is different. I personally believe that it's not "black forever". I mean it is, but it won't matter since your consciousness goes bye bye. In that it's not like sleep, it's simply just nothing.

That being said, it has been shown that there is this increase spark in the brains activity during death. Coupled with the fact that many people who were revived believed they saw their respective heaven or see loved ones I like to think that in our last moments our brain delivers us what we want most. Whether it be darkness, heaven, a lost loved one, etc. I think we are given some mercy at the end.

Ultimately that, as with everyone else's take, is just an opinion. Believe what you wish!

Regardless if there is an afterlife or not, death itself is permanent. Everyone who has died has never come back. No matter what happens after - it is never the same. Death is always the end of your lifetime in this universe or dimension.

what did it feel like in the millions of years BEFORE you were born?

i think that's what it's going to feel like after we're dead.

I believe It's permanent. There will be nothingness, because if you mess with someone's brain(with surgery and whatnot) then their whole psyche can change accordingly - so if you kill the brain, then the psyche dies and "you" are gone. Religions help people cope and soothes their ego by telling them there's a continuum after death
I agree with cease2exist. There is nothing to worry about; before you were borne there was no problem for you, and the world will get back to that situation.

We may not fully understand how consciousness is produced, Consciousness is almost certainly a result of neuron's in our brain/to a much lesser degree our gut. Consciousness doesn't exist in 99% of baryonic matter. It's pretty localized to planet Earth (and probably a handful of other planets in other galaxies) in an immensely massive universe. There's definitely still a lot we don't know about the universe, but there's a lot more scientific evidence indicating life (consciousness) ends when electricity stops running through our neurons because our heart stopped. None of the unknowns in science show any indication in life after death or that consciousness is fundamental in anyway to the universe
Shit it's so deep.

Imagine dying is sort of like sleeping. You don't know that you are there, when you wake up after sleeping, hours have passed and you might not be able to tell how long that was.
If you can isolate the feeling of deep sleep, you can somewhat imagine what death is like.

I try not to think about it, but I'm honestly not entirely sure.
A large part of me wants to hope that there's something more to all of this than just pain and suffering.
But simultaneously, if there is a God, he'll need to beg for my forgiveness.

Death is permanent in the sense that one day life ends, but what happens after death.

Maybe we come into this life to become conscious and we lose this after death. We go back to sleep, to nothingness.

Makes me wonder what I am besides this physicality.

In the other hand I have seen and felt spirits, so I believe that there is a other side.

Life is a miracle, who knows why we are here.

No one can truly know the answer to this question sadly. My personal belief is that we will be put into an eternal sleep in a very, very long time, until this current world ends. Maybe we'll wake up one day when a new world is formed, but as a completely different being and without any memories left. Perhaps it could just all end though, who knows. But if we do really happen to wake up, I hope the new world will be better, at least in some ways
