"im not mentally ill"

"i get angry a lot and want to kill myself"

and people wonder why the government and normal people dont consider us rational people capable of making decisions. People like this guy ruin it for everyone else.

No I think it's pretty rational to be angry a lot and want to die if you have a schizophrenic mother, severe chronic back and knee pain, no extended family whatsoever, and have been abandoned by all previous relationships when you needed them the most lol

the only thing there that doesnt make you mentally ill is chronic back pain, the fact that you mentioned the others mean they affect you mentally. Stop being in denial, it doesnt help anyone.

Would you kill yourself only because of chronic back pain?

yea I would kill myself only because of my chronic pain actually. I'm sorry I don't understand your point. I'm mentally ill because I got mentally affected by other people? That's your logic?

It's okay Limbo, you seem like a child or someone younger. Maybe when you have more experience with how badly life can really go then you'd understand why some people want to kill themselves. I remember I used to think the way you did when I was younger.

I was in fact asking if you would kill yourself over back pain. Its a perfectly valid reason to kill yourself. The fact however that you decided to go on a rant and chat all this rubbish means you have emotional problems too. Mentally ill buddy.

Yikes man. You seem to be the one with emotional problems. Did I offend you lol? I didn't think I was really emotional in my previous post...? I saw your history though and you seem really antagonistic toward everyone here.

Very alpha man. There was never a conversation tbh. You wanted to start an argument from the start - I think everyone could see it. Have a good one!

yes but from my opinion people make life full of more suffering than necessary for each other. if people lived in the most "beneficial" way then the planet may not be as bad as it is right now.
Problem is who decides the definition of 'beneficial'?

he never said being mentally ill makes you unfit. Whats with the stigma of mentall illness anyway? ive noticed the phrase not being liked on this forum.

Mental illness can range from a tiny mild dysthymia to full blown schizophrenia.
Or it can range from poor medicine, bad/greedy doctors, etc. Once you have a mental health issue few of the physical symptoms you may have are not taken into account.

its normal to think life is pointless at times. Every above average iq person does this. What isnt normal and a sign of mental illness, is wanting to kill yourself over it. There is an underlying issue that pushes you to that thought.
Hmmm...what would that issue be Limbo? Extreme, debilitating central nervous system pain, locked-in syndrome, untreatable cancer...or homelessness, starvation...and the underlying issue is?...smile.

There's always an exception to the rule. However, I'd bet that most CTBers have a diagnosed or undiagnosed mental illness.
...and I ask myself...why is that? Have you ever taken a look at the DSMV? Interesting reading. I firmly believe in the possibility of multitudinous misdiagnosis...lol...sorry that was darn hard to type...you can take it seriously though...

I guess scientific evidence that shows that percentage of quality of life going up. For example the ingenious tribes have lowest stress, rarely any depression, rarely any abuse so they are doing something better than us despite having less. There are concrete methods for lifestyle that do improve quality of life that science proves.

Its actually crazy how extreme you take my words. I simply meant pointless at in the philosophical view. I asked op to clarify.

Anyone who walks into a psychologist's office will be diagnosed with something. If you're the rare bird who doesn't, it's probably because you didn't get a second opinion.
And I'm not suggesting everyone is mentally ill, but that everyone is diagnosable in the eyes of psych doctors.

I don't really consider myself to be mentally ill in the sense that I don't find my own reactions abnormal or atypical. I find them to be of normal detriment, caused by abnormal situations and events.
I think that's why psych meds never worked for me. They either made me worse or made me something else entirely. Certainly not a "well" person. Certainly not ME. I know I'm different and my mind works differently. But why does that make me ill. My mind has never caused the kind of damage my body has caused my mind.
I don't think there's anything wrong with my brain chemistry. I think there's something wrong with what's happened to me and what the roll of the dice has landed on for me.
I have tangible reasons to be f***ed up.
I don't really like how the term mental illness makes it seem like it's always something inherently wrong with the person. Never that they were just thinking clearly about their shit situation.
Especially in regards to suicide.

So while I'd like my answer to be yes. I know any "professional" I've ever been to, would love to tell you differently.

I could never figure out why as a doctor he'd choose Vicodin of all things to pop. That acetaminophen is brutal :haha:

I saw a study one time where doctors were provided the lifelong medical history of several different people. The doctors only thought about 20% of the people were mentally ill. That's not a lot different than the prevalence of mental illness in the US population as a whole.

Then the doctors were provided with one more piece of evidence: every single one of those people had committed suicide.

After the doctors were told the people had committed suicide, they estimated that somewhere between 75-80% of the people were mentally ill.

This basically confirms that there's no real evidence that people who commit suicide are mentally ill. It's not that people commit suicide because of mental illness, it's that people are presumed mentally ill because they commit suicide.

Anyway, that study was from a pro-life website (it was discussing how hard it is to tell who will commit suicide), but they unintentionally showed that mental illness causing suicide is a myth.

Mental illness? Usually unresolved trauma that they want to patch up with toxic 'meds'. The whole of society and how it operates is fucking mentally Ill, and if you see things for how they really are oh now you're seriously mentally ill.

I've met plenty of people in prison who admit they are guilty.

I have cancer and related depressive disorder but my suicidal ideation is not psychiatric.

Actually I talked to a year 4 med student during a consult at the cancer center yesterday. I told him everything I knew about the carotid sheath, vagus nerve and baroreceptors I've learned recently. He acknowledged these ideas and I told him that I felt like I was in control by having the means at hand and secreted on my person at all times. When the attending physician came in to discuss this he reported that I had mild SI but was not concerned that I would act on it. At any rate no certificate for commitment was issued and walked out of the appointment.

And I told him I'd been practicing and could induce syncope in 8 seconds by pressing on my neck...
