Im not the most technical person, but I've been trying to figure out if I can use a hood instead of an exit bag for the inert gas method. I have 8l Argon and a regulator/flowmeter, that I want to connect to some sort of hood. I know there's the EEBD ones and the PPH also mentions some experiments done to use this. This is the hood I'm thinking of buying and the regulator.

Cheap

In the latest PPH I can see that the tube/end looks kind of similar to this, however I have no idea how they attached it and it doesnt seem like they really specifify it. Perhaps its really intuitive, but I want to be certain that I know how and that its done correctly.

So I was hoping someone could help me to determine whether it would be feasible to use this mask instead of an exit bag and how to connect it to the regulator?

It would be interesting if somebody with access to the EXIT forums would ask Dr Philip Nitschke how he did this connection in his Hood video on the PPeH:

I'm sure there are users here with access to that forum.

When I tested my Exit Bag, I made a similar connection through a balloon (its narrow part) and ties. The installation worked and there were no inert gas leaks, but I will not say that it was reliable. I pulled one end onto the tube and fixed it with a coupler, the other onto the flow meter.

Maybe someone could fabricate you an adapter on a lathe?

Maybe someone could fabricate an adapter for you on a lathe?

In lieu of having one made, it seems a round piece of plastic bar stock of some type, a drill press or drill, some bits, a pipe tap, and some fittings can get you there. Without being able to see the end of the hose coming off the mask very clearly, personally, I'd find a piece of plastic rod stock that would fit the fitting at the end of the tube coming from the mask, drill a hole into it, tap it with a pipe tap (that matches the pipe thread on chosen barbed fitting), and then screw a barbed fitting into the tapped hole. Choose a barbed fitting with the same size barb as the one on the flowmeter. All that would be left is to connect the two barbed fittings with a plastic tube. It really isn't that hard to do.

What type of locking mechanism is on the end of the hose coming off the mask? I can faintly see something sticking up slightly from the hose end. Is that end piece pliable or hard plastic? Is there a locking ring inside the end piece?

It still sounds too complicated for me to figure out. But I'm sure the lack of technical self-confidence and the language barrier makes it even more difficult. I havent actually ordered the mask yet, since I wasnt sure if it would be suitable for the purpose and if I'd be able to hook it up. I checked the store that sells it and as far as I can tell the tube is not meant to be connected to anything. At least they dont sell anything for that purpose. I'm sure it should be possible - as evident in the PPH as well. I would ask around as well, but I have absolutely no clue what to use as a cover story. :ahhha:

Do you have any pictures? Perhaps that could give me a clearer idea. Are you still using a hood as well then?

It has to connect to something, doesn't it? What does the mask's tube normally connect to? Can you DM me a link to the mask?

Hey, are you still here? And did you figure it out?
I think you are quoting the wrong post. I am not the OP. I was one of the responders to the OPs thread. The OP never responded back to my last post (the one you just quoted).

Oh, that's a shame. But I hope they made it. Do you know any further information on the method? Can you DM me so we can talk a bit more about it?

I don't know a lot about this method, but by most accounts it seems like a very peaceful one. Takes getting some stuff, like an N2 tank, flow meter, a mask, or some type of bag. Depending on where you live )US, Europe, etc) there are differences in the fittings on the tanks and on the regulators and flow meters, so you need to make sure you are getting pieces that will mate together. There's an entire Megathread on it. If you really have questions about it, I think GasMonkey @GasMonkey is about the resident expert here, or one of them, anyway. He can tell you more than I can. But, I could easily make an adapter to attach that mask's end fitting to the barbed fitting on the flow meter. But, that's me, though.

Here's the Megathread Inert Gas Megathread

As far as the OP making an adapter, it doesn't seem likely based on what they said in one of their follow-up posts: "It still sounds too complicated for me to figure out."
