I'm not sure he was as calm as he appeared...his voice was shaking a few times...also, he took all the time to write the notes but jumped while wearing his bathrobe......but I agree, it is really sad. He looks so young. He also hesitated once before jumping which makes me think he really wanted to live but didn't see any other way.

I remember this video from a few years ago. Yeah I don't think landing on feet is really good at all, it sounds really painful and isn't really an instant death (unless one fall unconscious and then dies of injuries later on).

@ladolcemorte Yeah it might seem like he wanted to live, but I think it's still mostly his "survival instinct" kicking in versus having second thoughts.

EDIT: Okay, looked it up. Taj Tower, Colaba. So he was pretty well off, by Indian standards. Students who have that kind of money are rare.

There's a 2006 movie called The Bridge that covers some of the suicides from the Golden Gate Bridge in detail. The cinematography is breathtaking. They show quite a few people jump and the way they do it, it's like they never give it a second thought. They climb over the railing, get on the ledge, and just go. I wrote about this doc on other threads and about the GGB in general because they're building that huge steel net underneath it to deter people from jumping. It costs so much money it's infuriating. Plus a PSYCHIATRIST was the impetus because his daughter jumped. There's too many things wrong with the story and that project to cover in one thread. To me it's like building a monument to society's stupidity; how many lives could actually have been made better from the money they are throwing into building that net? How many people could have gotten access to mental health services? If I had the money I'd ride out there now and jump with a manifesto in a plastic bag in my pocket or something. Like a small tiny tiny % of all that money could sustain one person long enough to take a break from their grind, seek services, look for a different doctor, find recovery from anti-depressants, whatever they need that would lead up to the jump. But no, let's wait until they're that desperate and keep them here. And instead of killing them, let's be sure they're crippled and have another set of problems.

I keep reading this comment from so many people about landing head first. I seriously question if it's actually possible for the average person to control how they land. I suppose an Olympic diver who's used to landing in pools head first could do it, assuming that the terror of jumping to their death does't negatively impact their form.

I meant to comment back on this earlier. I absolutely love all kinds of movies, and just from a filming perspective it's incredible. The whole story behind making it is fascinating too, the filmmakers lied to get permission to make it because San Fran tries to hide how many actual #s of people jump. Then the people filming had the police on speed dial to report people looking suspicious. (I know as pro-choice people it's annoying, but in the real world it's really just being decent. Especially since you're capitalizing on the losses of others.) But those shots are real time, and unacted. The guy in black with the long black hair who just falls off backward a the end always makes me burst into tears or suck in air. Like somehow he'll change his mind. I do the same thing with "The Fire Within"- a 1960s French black and white "artsy" film where the guy kills himself. You start the film knowing he's going to, and I still jump at the end every time he actually pulls the trigger. Like he's going to see the bright side of life all of a sudden. If I could do my life over I would have been involved in movies somehow. And about a million other things.

And the guy with the black hair and leather jacket, his name is Gene Sprague and yes, heartbreaking. (I actually kind of have a bit of a crush on him...it is probably really creepy to have a crush on a dead person, but the way they tell his story is just so compelling.). I always wonder whether or not he heard that phone message about the job before he left for the bridge that day...

I know what people mean by "guts" because most of us seek what is a non violent death. I see it as PAIN I think that if I was in enough pain, I would jump too. So even though I came 20 minutes of losing my life in a house with a portable gas generator on, and I was in the darkest day of my life, I still needed to calm my nerves with alcohol and relaxing herbs before I pulled the ignition and laied down to die. Yeah, there is guts, but those guts are found in immense suffering that overrides, logic, fear and suvival instinct. These moments are the gifts that each one who hopes for suicide success hopes for.... I believe: Guts = Pain>Survival Instinct, logic, fear.

I rather comment about this video first. And then I'll go back and read all the comments. I didnt' want reading what people said first, affecting my reaction.

Just to clarify. It's sad and it's heart breaking. I wish I could just give the guy a hug and tell him everything is going to be okay. to tell me what's going on. But I definitely understand feeling that way, so I'm sure it wouldn't of made a difference anyways.

I can't believe I never find videos like that. It's not like I haven't tried. Whether it's duckduckgo. Or Google or whatever other search engine. Or directly on livveleak or vmeo. I never seem to find these videos.

It breaks my heart to see someone, have to resort to that option. That they have been so beaten down by everything in their life that, that was their last resort, their last option.

And even though, you could see he had a bit of that shake voice of times, that whole fake sense of bravado, of putting on the best front possible, that we all do at times. I think you could tell, even though he wasn't happy about it, but that he had accepted his fate.

And we'll never know the backstory, we'll never know the real reasons why he decided to ctb. We can all imagine and know better, that it just wasn't some random impulsive reason.

And even though it's just a couple of seconds. which perhaps felt like a lifetime. I hope he went out in the quickest most peaceful way. Instead of just laying there struggling on his last breathe.

I think someone bumped this thread and I'm not one to post back and forth, but I have am immense respect for jumpers and how the hell they did it. I always post my cousin did it, and the whole family was in complete shock. He just stopped on a bridge and jumped the hell over. Like 20 years ago and the story was always he found out he had a gene for a degenerative disease that ran in his part of the family. Fast forward 20 years and good old mom is forgetting many of her lies. (Mark Twain said always be honest and you'll never have to remember anything,) and now I come to find out he battled severe depression. At a time when I did also due to bipolar. Gee, no one ever thought it might help for us to talk to each other about it. My family has hidden so many disgusting secrets I will go to my grave wondering if that was a big part of it.

The only emotion allowed was happiness and family gatherings are great - never mind that so and so did that to so an so. We keep that brushed under the rug and plaster on a smile. While I grieve his death, I see it also as a big fuck you to our dysfunctional, sick family. I can't find anything about his death online, yet several deaths before his are easily found through various databases. Yep, just scrub away anything that would ruin our "perfect image." I am really pissed lately. I finally have a good therapist who Charges next to nothing, and I still want to die. You mean my physical pain will only worsen and I will need major surgery and be given Tylenol afterward? That it will probably take the rest of my natural life to quell this rage inside of me for not just the traumatic events, but the denial of them afterwards. I have yet to find a reason to venture into the recovery forum.
