ok I was finally able to focus and read about nitrogen some and have a few questions

1. the PPH says a 2 liter cylinder is suitable. how heavy is a cylinder? I am not very strong so this is a factor
2. someone also mentioned transporting it safely. I'm wondering if a rolling suitcase might help me with both the weight and the safety issues
3. if I buy an empty cylinder, how much does it typically cost to fill?

You may want to search for "R2D ReBreather lll" on the net and here. The 3rd edition just came out in June. It will solve many CTB issues *if it works as designed.* Members here are trying to find out.

thanks, doesn't look like anyone's got much information about it yet though

I've figured out how to get my hands on nitrogen locally and I would just like to have it on hand asap in case I decide for sure I'm going through with it. I just don't know if I can physically carry it or transport safely and want to make sure I have the budget for it

A 2 liter canister weighs about 4kg when filled.
But I would rather take a 5 liter canister.

ok thanks, that's a lot less than I was expecting
i would think you'd get asked many, many questions for trying this.
why? if it's heavy and someone here said they were asked about transporting their canister home safely when they bought some, I would think a rolling suitcase with some padding would be a good way to do so and stave off questioning of that kind. it sounds like it's not too heavy for me to carry on my own anyways

1. The PPH is unreliable.
2. Yes, a suitcase is a good idea.
3. This depends on the country. I would buy a filled cylinder.

Which of the inert gas methods do you want to use? : SCUBA, SCBA, EEBD hood, exit bag, Rebreather ?

The price of a filling depends on the purity and quantity.
For example:
2 liter 200 bar 2.8 (99,8 % puritiy) ~ €25,-
2 liter 200 bar 4.0 (99,99 % purity) ~ € 30,-

If I remember correctly you are in the Netherlands.
DHL ships nitrogen up to 5 liters, so you don't have to rely on local suppliers.

Btw. a 5 liter bottle weighs around 12 kg.

yeah I was just realizing they probs have different sizing in the US too. Someone else here suggested a 5 liter but I'll have to look into the equivalent of that here. I thought buying a cylinder and filling it might cause less questions since I'm not sure I can get a filled cylinder shipped to me

I was planning on using an exit bag but haven't looked into the others yet other than the rebreather, but I'm p sure I can't afford that. was wondering about the oven bag for the exit bag though bc I'm not sure how many microns those are and the PPH said to use a 50 micron plastic bag.

I'm in the US, not sure I can get it shipped here, but we do have DHL. I browsed around a little online and it looked sketchy to me, mostly ebay sellers

i figured i could just wear something cute and act really cheerful and they might not ask too many questions. but if they do was just planning on saying I have a friend who's teaching me how to make nitro cold brew. I like cold brew and cooking so it shouldn't be too much of a stretch and if someone else is teaching me, I don't have to know anything technical

I was even thinking I could bring my bf with me lmfao I think he would absolutely buy that I'm learning how to make cold brew and could help me carry it if it does end up being too heavy for me. Plus if I go in with someone else, I think they're less likely to think something's up

It´s very easy to order a filled inert gas cylinder in the EU. It is possible to get it forwarded to the USA, but it costs a lot of money + import tax / duty.

Most countries regulate transport of gas (even inert as still pressurized).

Licensed depos check your transport method (e.g. strapped outside / back of trunk on your van).

ok so it looks like the sizes are 20 cf and 40 cf, I'm guessing I should go with 40 cf?

would the trunk of a sedan work?

at first it sounded like you were gonna show up with a rolling suitcase (on foot). yeah, that sounds just fine and you have thought out a good cover story too.

I don´t know. I'm not familiar with the EEBD method. You should find an answer in this thread:
or search for: EEBD hood
