Venting im deleting all social media

this cant be real, all this negativity and hate makes me want to vomit

everyone hates eachother, everything is black and white, there is no hope left

people are superficial and arrogant

i know those people exist outside of internet too but they are represented more here

im going to quit all social media platforms especially algorithmic ones

i will be using only sasu and YouTube

I've never had any social media! but then I grew up without it so I never needed or wanted it. Nor did I want to hear from people from the past. No one can find me and that's how I like it. I don't have the temptation to look up old exes which has been brilliant for me

Ditto! I had Facebook long ago when my students insisted I needed it. But then it started to get dangerous with privacy concerns so I deleted it in 2011. Since then? Nothing until I found this site (and am very satisfied with being here)
I'm glad I didn't grow up with social media. It must be so difficult as a young person subjected to that cesspool of anonymous bad actors.

I never wanted Facebook in the first place but when I signed up there back in 2014 I was trying to promote myself and make contacts in comic and art world. It became a crapfest over the years and added more to my pain than it ever did good, so I deleted it last year.

I was also on LinkedIn to help find a job... it never found me a job. I found work through a friend back in 2017 and in no way thanks to LinkedIn... also, in recent years LinkedIn has basically become Facebook Jr with all the same nonsense and non-professional posts... so I was happy to delete that last year too.

Never was son any of the other services. I watch Youtube videos a lot and sometimes comment, but rarely. And now I'm here. But nobody knows who I am here. Or at least I don't think anyone does.

I've had social media in my younger years but it never was a necessity for me. Today, social media is more used as a way to manipulate the populace than...well, a social network. I've had a Facebook, an Orkut account (Who remembers those?), and...that's it. Didn't understand either of them and just left the accounts to rot. (OK, I've had some fun in Orkut. I was a kid, it was easy back then to have fun.)

I use Youtube (Without an account and a shitton of stuff that tones down its addictiveness, as well as no comments because those are pure garbage 99% of the time.) and Whatsapp/Telegram. I don't consider those social media because YT is just a video watching platform for me, and WhatsGram are just messaging apps. (I know all 3 of them try to make them more social media-y to pander, but honestly, as long as you stick to videos/messaging, you'll be fine.

I did have part on some forums, as well as Discord for some time. Discord is an old shame and I got many of my current mental problems from there. Tried a quick stint with Revolt but...turned out pretty dissapointing in terms of people (Everyone was a mass shitposter that ignored me when all I wanted was a sane conversation.

I guess forums are the way for me. Public chat is too fast and makes me feel ignored. E-Mail is for work and messaging apps just for communicating necessities. Forums are big enough for me to feel part of a community and slow enough to not overwhelm me.

Also, I never had a Twitter/X account. People talk so much of toxicity on that network, that I'm happy i dodged that bullet! In fact, I can't browse X anymore cause Melon Husk blocked for anons! I should thank him for saving me and a lot of people unwanted distress from stoopid peeps!

Former social media addict here. Did a similar route, I quit all social media with the exception of ones where I privately chat with friends. I don't think social media is inherently bad, but it brings out the worst in people. So much anger, civility dies, and the most important part is that people like you or give you attention, no matter what circumstances cause it.

Sometimes I think not having these social media can also harm. Not in a personal way, but society expects you to partake on them, and shuts you off of many things if you can't handle it. Maybe it's all planned, because as I said earlier, social media is more used to manipulate people rather than to promote sociability. Think of them like cults that secretly hate outsiders and it may make sense...or not, but hey I tried to rationalize
