I myself have two large dogs, one is very well trained and the other is still a puppy so not the best behaved but he's a pretty good dog and a rare breed so I think they'd both find homes quickly in the event of my passing. I just feel bad leaving them behind as they are quite attached to me, and I know few people would give them the quality of life I do.

My mom lives about 30 minutes away from me, so when I CTB I plan on scheduling a text message to her so she can come pick them up and temporarily take them in. No one else would check in on me if I didn't do this, and I need to know they'll be taken care of.

Other pet owners, what are your plans?

they are my main reason for staying. i have two high drive high energy dogs. one of them i think would have an easier time adapting to a life without me. my first dog is like my soulmate and i think she would go into deep depression if i was gone
i don't know who i could fully trust to care for them and having them adopted out to strangers is absolutely out of the question. they are both competition dogs and are very intense. maybe i could send them to family who have big yards and that they love, but i don't know if that's enough. maybe my second dog could live with one of my trainers so he could keep doing what he loves. id send them there by saying i'm leaving to travel if i were to ctb. they are both really attached to me so i feel very guilty thinking about death

still, my first dog gets depressed whenever i travel for more than 2-3 days. i have a very hard time getting over that so i might wait until she passes tbh

can i ask what dogs you have?

I live with my parents so I'm planning on leaving my cat to them. They love him anyway.

Sounds like you are in the dog sport community? So strange meeting someone else here!

My first dog is a GSD, my younger one is a Beauceron. I think my Beauceron wouldn't be that affected by my death, he is an affectionate dog but kind of in his own world, I was hospitalized earlier this year and he adapted well to living with another handler. I do worry about my GSD, he is very attached to me.

They have been my reason for living as well but everything's so miserable right now I don't truthfully know if I can wait the 8-14 years for them to pass on.

i am :) i have a trainers license in my country and used to be in charge of puppy training in my club. i resigned tho because of declining mental health

beaceuron are really beautiful too! i heard they can be hard work tho. i get you with the age, my first dog will be 9 in a few days and she barely has any grey hairs, still at the top of her game.. it'll be a few years before she even starts slowing down probably. i heard of dogs health declining or dying of "broken heart" after owners passing and i am just so scared of that

i'm sorry about your hospitalisation, i was hospitalised a couple months ago as well and i was told my dog was spending most her time in front of my door. but i also haven't been able to give them all of what they need recently and pulled out of competitions, not going to training regularly... it's really hard to come to terms with

Completely off topic, but I thought your profile picture was Diego Brando at first. 💀
