Last week I had my first counselling appointment with my university counselling services. I was told I am only allowed 5 sessions.

The counsellor explained to me the counselling service is not an advice service. For example I need help with time management because I get severely depressed and anxious when I don't manage my time properly. The counsellor will not give me advice on how to deal with that key thing making me depressed and anxious and unable to do my university work.

I need coping skills to be manage my feelings of struggling to cope with rejection.

The counselling service says they are a listening service and anything long term I need to go to you guessed it The NHS.

Students in England pay high tuition fees and what do we get ? Atrocious university administration, things in the university not working properly at times and limited counselling services 5 sessions is not enough.

Universities get shocked when students kill themselves.

How are people supposed to get help when it's difficult to access help or when help is limited. This is same society who gets baffled when a person kills themselves and ask why didn't they get help.

I found a YouTube channel which has given me tips on how manage rejection from men who don't love me. It's unbelievable I have to turn to YouTube for help because the system can not help me.

This is such a huge problem. Therapy and counselling is so expensive and not everyone can actually afford it. It's devastating.

Uni counseling services are really bad. I used them many times when I was in university, and was never impressed with the service I received. Whenever I would speak about how my disabilities impacted my life or how badly the healthcare service treated me they would quickly change the topic and dodge the subject to avoid acknowledging anything I said.

Once, I even got told by the counselor that adult life is lonely and its a fact of life, that adult life is bad and difficult. How is that supposed to help, if you are searching for solutions to such loneliness? It is so depressing when you reach out for support and feel like you've gotten nothing.

If I were you, I would use the 5 sessions to see if they can sort referrals elsewhere. Whether that be support groups like dot suggested, where you could meet people going through similar issues, or study tutors at your uni who are trained to assist with time management and helping you complete your assignments on time.

It is the same in the US. At my school, we got only three sessions. I used all three my freshman year. It came down to "Yeah, I can't help you, sorry. Here, read this book." WTF? I feel you.

@Forveleth Then schools get surprised when a young person kills themselves. How do they expect people not to kill themselves if there is no help.

It's so not fair how university and college tuition is expensive because students are not getting high quality services to match what they are paying for.
