I tried to make friends and had the police at my flat because of it!

On Friday afternoon I had the police at my flat, saying I'd contacted someone at the netball club I joined recently saying I was interested in making friends with her, and asking me not to contact her again. The only person I've contacted is Christina, who was interested enough to reply to the first of the 2 messages I wrote to her. Is there something wrong with offering someone my friendship? What I'd said was perfectly harmless; I'd just asked her how long she'd been playing netball and things.

If she doesn't want to get to know me before deciding she doesn't like me, I don't see why she has to get the police involved!

Then on Saturday, I got an e-mail from Netball Scotland saying my membership of Netball Scotland has been suspended. They didn't make it clear what that actually means or why. I don't know what's going on! They were even less informative than the police the day before. I don't know whether this is related to Christina or not, they didn't mention it; I can't see what else it could be about!

I don't even know whether to go to play netball tonight now. I'll probably go; I'm scared they'll tell me I can't play though.

Something is clearly not being said and if you're certain you did nothing untowards you should demand explanation politely. Perhaps in writing so there's a record.

You're also autistic, yes? Maybe you should start mentioning the diagnosis to people, and how in the past you have had these sorts of reactions. If they know you have autism, they'll probably be less likely to assume ill intent. Maybe you could also find someone to give you advice on how to write/speak in a less risky way. Alternatively, going to some group activities that include others with the same problems, if that sort of things is available.

If you want to give people here an outline of what you wrote, maybe you'll get some opinions on what could be going wrong.

You would think so but my friends dad reported her partner to the police over a few messages. Nothing wrong or bad was said and yet her partner still got nicked for it.

Harmless people are treated like criminals and meanwhile the real criminals in power (like, for example in the UK, Jimmy Savile or Prince Andrew) are allowed to get away with it and are given gushing news stories and everything regardless. It's good at least that you're trying to get out and make friends, society be damned. I don't really have any advice because I don't know the situation well enough, but all I can say is be careful because more and more so the slightest offenses are becoming crimes if you're not part of "the club". Pick a different sport.
One that isn't predominantly played by women.

Don't go to the practice tonight.

If you generally have problems connecting with people (maybe are on the spectrum as someone else mentioned), start by meeting people in peer support groups or organized, supervised events. And again: pick something that is co-ed and not predominantly frequented by women.


(The fact that you are even considering going to practice tonight shows that there seems to be a rather large gap between what you have been told by police, the Netball association and your own understanding of the situation.)

They arrested a heckler at the queen's funeral who called him out and there were news stories about it that were at least not hostile to the royals. Pretty disgusting considering what he's done. Of course the royals including Queen Lizzie were also cozy with Jimmy Savile who was practically a pimp for kids, so what do you expect.

I think it's been deleted now but yes, a thread was begun where he asked for advice on how to strangle a woman not to kill, but "just to frighten" her, because he hated her. This was not long after he sought advice on writing a death threat iirc. To be fair to him it's at least in plain sight l guess, but unless you pay close attention a well-meaning sort could unwittingly fall for one of this obvious danger's routine appeals for "friendship".
