I've been taking 5mg of lexapro for about a month now, I noticed laying in bed even more now instead of doing anything at all. While it kind of does its job, because I not sleeping from 2am to 2pm anymore and just scrolling eating and sleeping again, I mean at least I get up and go to bed consistently now, it still feels like not much has changed and I just can't get myself to do jack shit.. Anyone's got any ideas?

Everyone is different and reacts differently when it comes to antidepressants. However, 5mg of lexapro is below the minimum clinical effective dose, which is 10mg. Usually, people are on 5mg only temporarily for introducing it and they are later switched to 10mg. Maybe see with your physician if there is a reason you're at 5mg only and consider if they agree to increase to 10mg?
If you are also looking for motivation, lexapro might not be the best candidate. If I'm not mistaken it's really good against anxiety but there could be "better" molecules that gives you more "energy".
Feel free to keep us updated and take care.

To be fair I do have social anxiety and when I do go out it tends to help a bit, I was only on 5mg due to liver problems and a lengthy medical history of surgeries and such to see if I could even handle it, I'll have my next appointment on the 30th this month, I'll ask if we can up the dosage there. Thanks for the info!

I see, Lexapro makes sense then and so does the dosage. If it's possible to raise the dosage, I know in some countries Lexapro exist in drinkable solution where 1 drop = 1mg in a glass of water. It's ideal for custom doses and that's what I used in the past because 10mg was too much for me and 5mg too little.

Take care.

That does sound interesting, looked it up, turns out it does exist in drinkable form within the EU so I should be able to get hold of it; though I'm not sure if my therapist is just gonna let me self-dose my meds.. while I have no active plans to CTB, and trust myself enough to not just chug the entire thing, I'm not sure they do, though that's probably worth bringing up on the next appointment regardless, thanks. <3

You are most welcome. I don't think having a bottle is any different from having a box of pills in the end since you can also always chug the entire pill box after all. Take care and don't hesitate to keep us updated.

sorry for the hijack but i kinda have the same problem, not much motivation or desire or goal even on 20mg lexapro... do i ask my doc to add something else or like am i doing something wrong? even on 20mg i still cant help but just see CTB as the better option because of how hopeless my life feels. im also on 20mg ritalin and used to be on 2.5mg abilify but it gave me akathisia so it was discontinued

20mg is quite a lot already. Depends on how long you've been on it, it can takes several weeks for the effect to build up but if it's already been a while you might consider checking with your doc if another molecule might be better for you. Sometimes, some people need to try a few different antidepressants before finding the one that suit them. And if you've tried a few and nothing work out you can look into alternatives like Transcranial magnetic stimulation.

I didn't feel anything from Escitalopram even at 20mg, though your dose seems quite small.
Usually, the starting dose is 10mg, and it takes some time for the full effect to kick in. If nothing happens by that point, your doctor is going to look at adjusting the dose or trying another medication.

I also suffered with bed-rotting a lot while at it. You should probably tell all of this to your doctor.

Sending virtual hugs.

yah same here. 20mg lexapro didnt help whatsoever, big thing to note though is just because one medication didnt work doesnt mean all hopes lost. sure its really annoying because i know how hard it was to get help and actually get to the point of getting onto medication and all that but seriously keep booking appointments and try your best to open up as much as you can about the details of your situation to your psychiatrist. i know it feels like theyre always judging but its all worth it to find the best solutions for you. best of luck!
