It used to be so active, especially in chat. Some members were kinda legendary, like they left an impression on absolutely everybody (shoutout to you, crypticat/cryptic_egg).
There were people I had such a connection with, that I even met irl, traveling accross the world just for that one little connection. I can't believe its all a distant memory now. Only a few years have passed, its nothing.

Its weird cause I was more suicidal than ever in my life, but I still miss these times. If I could go back I would know how to save myself in an instant. But today I am completely lost as always. Maybe future me would know how to save me, or maybe she'll be dead :)

If you're an og, give me a shoutout in the comments :)

Would I count? I see SS as pre-Tentacruel video and After Tentacruel video cause that one fucking video caused the site to permanently gain more traction and to me have too much threads in suicide discussion, oh and incels.
I felt there was more in depth discussion before. TAW122 is still around though, they're cool, and an old member. The cat guy's cool too, the one with the pusheen profile pic. There's also Locked and Loaded? Is she still here? I swear I saw her recently.

I haven't even been here long, and I've noticed a noticeable shift in SaSu's "culture". I can't really put my finger on it, but I understand what you mean. The site feels more empty nowadays, if that's even possible.

I lurked here a few times in 2022 but would never consider myself an original obviously. It's very interesting to listen to you guys tell the stories of the old SaSu. It's like when parents tell you a story from their youth!!!

Before there was SaSu there was alt.suicide.holiday (a.k.a. AshSpace)... I kind of wish that was still running because that website was edgy af, and they actually reccommend coming here on their homepage now. That's how I found this place.

That website began in 1993, which was basically the same year the Internet came started being used by "regular" people. Funny how that and fetish porn were basically the first websites to be created.

It doesn't surprise me one bit that discussing suicide would be one of the first uses by the public of this kind of technology

I don't mean to be insensitive to the loss you feel, but I cannot help but notice the dark humor in what you're saying

This is a website full of people who want to die. It's not very surprising that the people who were on here a few years ago aren't on here anymore.

a.s.h and AshSpace are different things. a.s.h is an unmoderated Usenet newsgroup started in 1989. It predates the invention of the World Wide Web which is the internet we know today with webpages and web browsers. You can actually still visit a.s.h if you know how to use Usenet. Due to its unmoderated status, it's long since been flooded with trolls and spam but there are historical archives of some of what people once posted there. AshSpace is just an unofficial website that followed in the footsteps of a.s.h.

I only really know AshSpace. I did try and figure out Usenet at one point but never could get it to load actual posts.

That's so interesting though, thank you for sharing that.

Well there's little reason to visit it in current day anyways but an archive of many of the posts made is available here. Many of the posts there are...a product of its time during the wild west days of the internet so there's your warning :)

Yeah I'm TAW122 and I've been around not long after the original founders of SaSu founded this platform (which was right after Reddit killed off the SaSu subreddits there). I've been on SaSu for almost 7 years with a hiatus between early 2021 until mid 2022. I too, miss most of the people from the 2018-2019 crowd, and while there are some that are still around, there has been a lot of new changes and also new users over the years. The atmosphere is a bit different but overall SaSu is still unique in the sense that it is a platform where one can have uncensored, candid discussions about CTB, death, assisted suicide, and various things, then on top of that, useful method discussion (I cannot think of any other platform that allows method discussion) and that is a major game changer. I loved the community and I feel like I'm actually validated, heard, and somewhat understood (even if people don't fully comprehend - it's okay).

Also, I believe what separates me from a lot of users here on SaSu is I often make long posts, articles, and threads, and I will likely continue to do so until my time (CTB) has come.

Thank you.

I gotta admit that "Damn tree rats!", a short suicide story about slathering yourself in peanut oil and letting squirrels eat you in the forest being the very first suicide method suggested on a forum like this, is pretty iconic.
