Because by sharing sources openly or to people of who users don't know they can be trusted a lot of sources got closed/ vendors got arrested / simply disappeared because they don't want to get into legal trouble.

idk about a few years but i heard you can store it for almost up to a year if you dont open it, idk how true it is though. but it is a type of "salt" so it really shouldnt expire fast
