The UK's controversial Online Safety Bill has passed through Parliament and will soon become law
wouldn't the website owners be made responsible for any harmful content resulting in restricting access to the uk
i am just wondering how long this website is going to be accessible from the uk

Wow 😲 your joking 🥺 is this true ? Tbh tho this is the only place to talk of these serious issues, why can they no just leave us alone in the UK, such Draconian laws, they just want to control where we visit and what we speak of dont they, which is odd because the mental health services here suck to no end, so where else to turn to ? hate being a UK citizen, if we could each of us emigrate wouldn't be a bad idea, but for some of us perhaps not feasible, I can imagine them implementing this as you say darkover, it disgusts me honestly, yet more shit to be angry about, they just want to control what we do and what we talk about, this is a genuine surprise, could this site be banned do you think from UK google searches ? Like when some countries banned it ? This sucks to no end, if they can limit what websites we visit what else can they do ? Where will it end, where will it stop, no wonder some of us feel we have no say nor control over our own damn bodies 😡

unfortunately it is true when the law passes this website owner will have no choice but to block all uk residents with or without a vpn, otherwise they will be held accountable for any content users post on this website in uk law so they have to shutdown in the uk, unfortunately there is nobody you can turn too for help it just isn't out there this website is unique on the internet the only place you can talk openly about suicide without being censored.

As the other users mentioned, hosted in US, affected user can use VPN/TOR. Realistically, they also can't catch everyone, here's too many user here. It's like drugs although illegal, you can still get them. The police knows and well they've got better things to deal with than chasing down every single drug dealer. Same applies online, I personally think they would not attack this site due to the sheer amount of Uk user here and they can't and don't have the resources to go after us.

how do you know its hosted in the us aren't you just assuming that from previous comments using a vpn won't make a difference when the online safety bill comes into law in the uk, because the website owner will be held accountable for any content posted by the users in the uk, so if someone post a thread from the uk with a method that becomes popular the website owner will be held responsible for that content, basically the site owner won't have a leg to stand on when this new law comes into law they will have to ban every uk account and prevent anyone from the uk accessing this website, and even if they put this website on the dark web the law still applies and they will be hunted by law enforcement

You can see who hosts a website. This website is hosted by cloudflare which is a us based company. If the uk bans this website that means this website won't allow people with UK ip addresses to access the website. Italy and Australia are blocked. If they use a VPN they are effectively browsing from a different country and have a different ip address so they can access this site.

cloudflare is anti ddos protection just because cloudflare is hosted in the usa doesn't mean the actually website is hosted in the usa, doesn't matter if you can use a vpn to access the website the site owner will ban all uk accounts so not to get prosecuted from harmful content

Yeah you're right wasn't aware of cloudflare any cast. Guess we can't know for sure site won't go down. At least uk users can make a new account if it doesn't

Thanks for the heads up on this Darkover. That makes me really sad if we won't be able to access here. It's just going to make a whole load of already isolated people feel even more alone. They won't stop suicides either. If they REALLY want to do that- they need to look at WHY people kill themselves. Part of it I imagine is because people don't enjoy living in oppressive, controlling environments. Their solution? Clamp down even harder to make it even more oppressive... great. Reminds me of that quote in Star Wars: Princess Leia Organa : 'The more you tighten your grip, Tarkin, the more star systems will slip through your fingers.'

That sucks. I'm in the USA . The evil law makers here are trying to ban sn here. Both countries this world pure evil. This is about making us more of slaves in this evil prison world. How anyone could want to remain in this evil world as a prisoner, a slave and as a small animal that can suffer extreme pain is unfathomable to me

it doesn't matter where its hosted in chain or russia wouldent make a differnce to operate this website within the uk would require them meeting the online safety bill requirements which mean removing harmful content whenever it gets flagged

I know. I was just curious because if it's based in the UK, then that's bad news for everyone, not just UK members.

The law will never pass so I wouldn't worry about it.

The Tories have all the shares in the companies it would impact. The final act will have more holes than a sponge.

So any website with comments can be held accountable for the comments?
That incudes all social media including Youtube?
Basically if you have a website that users post comments on it needs to be blocked by the site owner from showing in the UK?
That sounds odd.

It's not possible to block your website from being viewed on a VPN.

To force website owners not being resident in the UK and websites not hosted in the UK is gonna be difficult imo. The UK can setup a firewall like China does and filter the complete internet traffic that would be the only effective way.

Anyway such laws are so crazy, a waste of time and money. Don't they have any other problems in the UK?!

Problems? In the UK? Oh you mean like when the servants are 3 seconds late polishing the elite's shoes lol. I thought you were talking about the 20 million people in poverty we don't care about.

That says it's about to become law. Again like the new York times they use protecting the children as a gateway to take away our most important rights.

This law makes any website owner liable if any person in the UK is exposed to suicidal content which means this site.

These politicians are evil

It's about control power keeping the slaves in the prison and taking away everyone person's most important rights including the right to move away from pain , suffering , or torture and the right to own your body personal autonomy

It's also about taking away freedom of speech and censoring anything they arbitrarily label as harmful. So I guess all porn gore , suicide and every thing except websites about how wonderful life is will be banned

Was reading about this new law today. Worried about it. But I don't think they'll be able to block or shut down SS - if it's anonymously hosted and in another country, there's nothing they can do right?

to continue to operate in the uk would require the site owner to meet all laws in the uk, and if they fail to meet the uk laws they will have to shut the doors to the uk or be their liable for prosecution

do you use a vpn to access this website if not then its not banned if yes then its banned in austraila

No VPN, just regular ol' wifi or mobile data. I have stumbled upon a few other Australians here too so not sure what's up with that
Yeah that's the theory...but in practice who are they going to prosecute? And how would UK law enforcement prosecute a completely anonymous host in another jursdiction? Are they really going to get some kind of extradition if SS hosts don't comply? I just don't think it'll happen...unless the US authorities want to close it down too.
It seems to me that authorities are more concerned with prosecuting distributors of CTB tools such as SN and N at this point in time. This may change in the future though and even then, it would only be significant if the US government specifically took action
